I meant to add that with your dark cabinets I would go with a cream on your island for contrast.

Did you use satin or semi gloss for top coat? We looked at Sherman Williams at a color called Bagel but it's not "talking" to me. It is a brownish color and I think we need more character.

We used Satin for the top coat. I have attached a photo.

Thank you, it is a small island..4ft.The doors have just been done and in the garage in between coats. We used Pratt and Lambert "Fedora".

Wow! Your countertops look great! What a difference that makes. I like your chandelier over the island, that looks great too. Have you gotten around to updating your pulls? How did the refreshing of your cabinets turn out? I think your island looks great as it is, the countertop makes it look nice, but if you are really set on painting it, I would pull a color from your countertop.

I am just starting remodel. It's funny that you have been wondering what to do with your dark oak cabinets, and I want to make my oak cabinets darker. I really love my cabinets, but they have turned very orangey, not a brown tone like yours. We are also getting new countertops, appliances, etc.

I have not painted but was still considering. Just haven't found the right color. Also did nor know if I wanted to paint only upper cabinets or all of them. Your comments caused me to stop and think. Do I really want to paint these cabinets that look good are in good shape.

It is looking great! You have done a wonderful job! Isn't it sometimes overwhelming with all the choices and decisions. I have gone back and forth about my cabinets between going darker and painting them. I thought I had decided to get them darker, but I don't think they would ever look how I envision, because they were not stained dark to begin with. It would be too costly to strip down to bare wood and start over. So.... I have made the decision to paint!! I had just posted today (on advice)my cabinet dilemma when I saw your post. I posted pics, so take a look when you have the time. My remodel journey has just begun!

I can't wait to get my countertops, yours look so nice. They really changed the look of your kitchen. Love too, your new deco above the cabinets, so cute! I like what you did with your island. I am going to go different on island color too, only I will be going the opposite of you. Maybe I will post as my remodel unfolds.

Again, your kitchen looks warm and inviting. Isn't that we all want it to do?

I swapped the old magic chief double oven for a new single oven and a shelf was added for micro. The new 27" oven (my space limit) is much larger even though it is also 27". After much research I bought GE oven & micro. Well pleased w/low fan noise of GE convection oven. The micro is counter size w/ build-in kit. The electric cooktop was replaced w/gas even though a line had to be added. It's a Thermador. Would recommend any of these w/out hesitation.

I posted pics yesterday on design dilemma. I am not sure how to get them moved.
