Unlike regular bamboo planks, which are made with a lamination process, strand woven bamboo planks are made taking the shredded fibers from the stalk and weaving them together to form a denser and harder material than even some hardwood flooring. Due to its incredible strength, it is recommended that you install strand woven bamboo flooring with glue. Nails may split or crack the planks.

Strand woven bamboo floors are actually perfect for areas of your home, like your living room and kitchen, that receive heavy foot traffic. They are more affordable than a lot of hardwood flooring, made from a more renewable resource, and the woven nature of the grass makes them very resistant to water and stains. Bamboo grows in extreme tropical conditions naturally. They are very tough plants, which, in turn, make tough floors.

I've lived with strand bamboo in my living, bedroom and bath areas for a couple of years and am very happy with it. It will scratch, just like wood- but it's tougher than your densest hardwoods, I'm told. Our floors were installed using glue- but we also applied the bamboo to some ceilings and built a vanity cabinet out of the material using a nail gun set at a wicked PSI- you can see photos in my ideabook "multi level soft contemporary"
