We've just moved into a rental home that we love, but we don't quite know how to put it together- and I don't have much experience to begin with (please excuse all the laundry on the rattan sofa!..).

Our living room has an open layout that flows into the dining area. I'd love any advice on how to arrange and decorate it. I don't want to take away from the fireplace and the open feeling the architecture naturally gives. I also don't think the TV should go above the fireplace because it's a little too small and would be uncomfortable to look at at that height.

Our furniture is all "starter" furniture handed down to us by family- so I'm working with what we have. However I don't at all mind suggestions of what we could add (we're planning on getting real end tables and some additional comfortable seating). Also I should add that our rattan couch will soon be getting custom made cushions that I haven't picked out a color for yet.
