No more pink kitchen!

last modified: 12 years ago
The old kitchen was an ugly pink with little storage. Now we have a bright white kitchen with tons of storage. The cabinets are American Woodwork shaker style. Counter top is "super white" granite. We closed off the utility area with a pocket door. Double windows were removed and a slider window was added which gives the illusion of a larger window, but it is the same size opening. Added a big farm sink. Removing the soffit allowed for taller cabinets. Wall behind stove was moved back 18 inches which was done by making the half bath behind it a little smaller, which did not hurt at all.

Thank you brickin. The floor is a 12" x 6" grey ceramic tile that kind of looks and feels like suede. It is a little tough to clean with the grooves (husband picked it out), but it feels nice on bare feet and looks good.

Beautiful transformation! Smart, inspired idea with the window, too. I love the deep blue with the white and countertop, etc. Very nice job!

Like it all! I don't usually like blue in a kitchen but your choice is really nice and just enough

Same kitchen? I don't think so! Show me a pic of the pink kitchen with the same black cat and maybe I'll believe ;)

    Awesome transformation - well done!

    PS - love the kitty

Beautifully done! Do you mind if I ask what your budget was (and what you actually spent for this?).
We are planning to redo our kitchen but maybe nothing structural (debating). Trying to understand cost of just cosmetic overhauls vs. full re-model

    Thanks Brooke Strong.
Our budget was $30,000. That included everything you see plus moving of wall behind stove 18" which made the half bath smaller, pocket door, new flush beam in ceiling since wall moved was load bearing. We did the demo and painting ourselves. Everything else was done by the contractor. He was real good about trying to keep everything under budget. But we did go over budget $4000, because unknown to us, the former owner who built the house did not cover the outside wall completely with felt paper, so for 21 years rain was getting behind the siding. and rotting the wood. Our contractor was leaning on the wall inside and fell through. The whole outside wall had to be replaced it was nothing but crumbled wood. We shopped around for the best deals on our appliances, all 3 cost $2800. Granite was $6600. American Woodwork cabinets were from Home Depot were $11,000, that was with their promotional discount that took off $6000. The contractor used his discount to buy the tile. Range hood and farm sink we bought on Ebay.
Hope that helps and good luck!

Wow I am impressed. Thank you so much for the feedback on your budget. Yes we had some same issues on our house with water coming into the deck no water barrier no flashing nothing. We just had to replace the siding across our whole house and wood beams.
Don't you love responsible homeowners. That was a sarcastic comment. We were going to redo our whole kitchen but we had to replace the back deck and of course fix all of the water damage which ended up costing almost $20,000
Of course contract work where we live is insanely expensive for some reason. But there goes the kitchen budget!
I will definitely have to take into account some of the smartest things that you did.

I'm thinking, after reading this and what some other people have written about their contractor costs-- we also live in an area where contractors/sub-contractors are very expensive. But I think this is such a gorgeous kitchen, and Mary Ann saved a ton on the cabinets, too. That was some promotional at Home Depot. :) But, still, the moving of a load-bearing wall, addition of a pocket door, etc-- all that work would have broken the budget here, for sure. Beautiful smart renovation, though.
