1. Natural Lighting: has a full spectrum of color. The color of light can change dependent on the season, weather conditions, climate and temperature.

2. Task Lighting: this type of lighting provides the necessary amount of light needed to work or complete a task. It helps provide clarity and is combined with general lighting.

3. Accent Lighting: the light fixtures pointed at the gallery wall, although not on: you can see that the lights are directed at the wall of art for emphasis. Accent lighting is used to highlight an area or object.

4. Ambient Lighting: the light fixture on the wall is creating a moody and cozy feeling/atmosphere. Ambient lighting doesn't always have an obvious light source and hardly casts a shadow. This type of lighting is used as a 2nd layer to general lighting in a space.

5. Grazing: Wall grazing provides an even wash of light on a wall or ceiling. Lights are usually aimed at a steep angle to highlight a wall by creating shadows. This is usually done with direct and up lighting.

6. Perimeter Lighting: lighting that is installed along the perimeter of a space and makes it seem like the space feels larger than it is.

7. Up Lighting: lighting that is installed in the floor and casts light upwards toward ceiling. In this image it's being used to highlight the landscape along the outside of the structure.

8. Cove Lighting: a form of indirect lighting that can be used as primary or accent lighting. Is usually installed in ledges/recesses and the light casts upwards towards ceiling and down the wall. This can have the effect that ceiling is higher and provides an even, warm light. The light source is hidden.

9. Recessed Lighting: this is a type of ambient lighting known as can or down lighting that comes in different forms - barrel, open, reflector, and eyeball. It is installed in the ceiling in either a grid form, cluster, or can be individual. It is a

10. Drop Lighting: also know as pendant lighting, this is lighting that comes from a fixture that is hung from the ceiling. It can take any shape or form.

11. Wall Washing: this is a type of lighting effect that is used to highlight texture on a wall. The light source is installed in the ceiling and the light is cast downwards along wall. Very similar to wall grazing.

12. Sconce Lighting: a type of light fixture attached to wall with light usually being cast upwards. It can provide additional lighting in areas where general lighting is too bright or not within reach.

13. 2x2 Fixture Lighting: a type of fixture lighting also known as grid lighting that is usually seen in commercial or institutional spaces. It can also be done in a 2x4 size and can be installed as a symmetrical grid, individually or in a random cluster.

14. Incandescent Bulb: also known as the Edison bulb, this is a type of light bulb, that emits a warm, flattering glow typically used in ambient lighting. It can be very hot and uses a lot of energy. In this image the light bulb is present in the drop lights above the kitchen island.

15. Fluorescent Bulb: this type of light bulb emits a cooler, shadowless light that is great as general lighting in workspaces or commercial spaces. It is more energy efficient and very versatile.

16. Creative Lighting 1: The neon chandelier suspended above the dining table here acts as both an art installation and ambient lighting. I believe this could also be considered task lighting when in use for meal times.

17. Creative Lighting 2: In this image the architect got creative with the way the natural light enters the space. The fact that the roof is also glass and open, allows for the daylight to really brighten up the space as the sun rises in the sky. Had they only left the wall to wall glass panels, the daylight would be more limited as you progress through the day.
