On the wall opposite the bed, Arazi Levine removed a pair of mirrored sliding closet doors in favor of custom floor-to-ceiling built-ins. French doors open to reveal a mix of cabinets, open shelving, closet rods and a wall-mounted flat-screen TV. “There’s really no room for a dresser in the bedroom, so maximizing storage space was key,” the designer says.
The master bedroom is layered in many shades of white, including the walls, drapes and bed. “We didn’t want the room to feel too cold or harsh, so all of the whites in the bedroom run toward the warmer side,” Arazi Levine says. The designer covered the walls in Benjamin Moore’s Simply White, which she says has hints of yellow that warm up the tone.
The master bedroom includes an alcove bed surrounded by custom cabinets in ebony-stained wood with brass pulls. The cabinetry provides additional storage and the black, white and gray wallpaper creates a dramatic feature wall. A pair of pendant lights made of multiple glass spheres drips from the bottom of the overhead cabinets, creating sculptural bedside lighting.
Each bedside cabinet features a top cabinet for large items, a charging station hidden in a drawer, an open cubby for decorative items and a built-in tray that slides out to hold a book or glass of water.
The neutral platte and simplicity of this guest room’s design complement the view through the long line of ribbon windows. The way Tate nestled the room into the hillside and wrapped the corner with windows makes the bed feel like a little campsite tucked among the rocks and shrubs (yet safe from desert critters).

To keep the tabletops free for nighttime essentials, Leech chose pendant lights instead of table lamps. They're not right beside the bed, so in theory would still work if you changed the size of the bed. Iike how each has their own control.

Instead of boxing in the walk-in closet behind the bed, “we added to the airy feel by keeping the wall open on three sides,” he says.

The master bedroom is at the top of the house in the new loft addition. “Our previous bedroom was all white, and I found it so light in summer, even with a blackout blind,” Kloeden says.

Love the soothing palette - interior designer Lauren Davenport is based in not-so-foggy Atlanta, but she also loves the depth and versatility of this neutral shade. “Revere Pewter plays well with a myriad of colors yet can stand on its own as a neutral backdrop,” she says. “The color can read light gray, brown, green and sometimes blue depending on the lighting and fabrics in the room.”
the designers nodded to one of the homeowners’ Japanese heritage by designing a custom bed and nightstand piece inspired by Japanese platform beds. While we’re talking organic, think of Mother Earth when creating organic modern style — this bed is made of sustainably harvested ash, and the walnut stain is water-based.
Work in storage. A wooden panel behind the bed has the addition of a box shelf in this clever design. With space on top for a nighttime glass of water and a recess for books, this neat solution eschews the need for a separate bedside table — a useful consideration in a small space.

In this example, the paneling acts as a sort of headboard and a feature wall to highlight the bed. It gives the room an architectural richness and likely also conceals some wiring leading away from the sconce lights.

The architect turned the wall between the master bedroom and the bathroom into a giant storage space, built by Karanadze. A pocket door can slide shut to separate the spaces or stay open to create a corridor to the bathroom.
Slim pendants. The fact that LED bulbs can be so small allows lighting designers to create interesting modern pendants that are slim in shape yet powerful enough to illuminate the surface below. Modern, understated cylinders or cones add sophisticated appeal to a space, and a dramatic finish such as matte black makes a smart counterpoint to crisp white walls.

In this bedroom in Los Angeles, white bedding and a mostly white palette for the bed allow the beautiful blue-gray walls to stand out, highlighting them instead of pushing them to the background with a bolder and more graphic bedscape.
A bright custom window seat with more built-in storage establishes a cozy reading nook. “The idea was to maximize the built-in storage in this room rather than using free-standing furniture, and doing so in a way that won’t give the room a heavy built-in and cluttered outcome,” Izen says.
