Elements of Design

This photo holds all three elements of design. The chimney in the middle of the room is texture, it looks like it feels rough. The space in this room would be how both beds are separate and pushed up against the wall for more room. Lastly the line in this picture would be the horizontal lines that shape the bed and the diagonal lines for the windows.

This is a small space made to look larger. They used light colors like the color white and pushed all the furniture away from each other to convey a large space.

This photo would be an example of texture because of the brick wall. The brick wall looks like it would feel all grainy and rough. While in reality its probably wall paper so its smooth.

This living room has been made to look smaller than what it actually is. The furniture has been pushed together to give an illusion of less space.

This photo represents zig zag lines. the wall and the pillows are all zig zag lines. They covey movement or excitement to the room.

This would be space divided because of the wall separating the room. The wall acts like a room divider to make the room seem like two different rooms.

This picture would be diagonal lines. The lines on the window are leaning/ diagonal. The way you know these lines are diagonal is because they are leaning, like a person about to run.

This photo has many curved lines for example the pool. The pool is in a curved shape (half circle) and so is the rest of the pool. Curved lines are more natural like a sun setting.

This would be space extended outward. They used the windows to give a look of more space in the room. The one wall is entirely windows.

This is a great representation of horizontal lines. The headboard, bed, and curtain rods are all horizontal. Horizontal lines represents rest.

This photo would fit into the two types of lines category. The two lines would be vertical and horizontal. Horizontal lines are the ones going left to right they represent rest because when we lay down we are horizontal. The vertical lines are the ones going up and down they represent movement because we stand and walk vertical. The dominant line would be the Horizontal the vertical like is used as an accent.

This is a good example of vertical line. The pillars on the deck that are holding up the roof are vertical. Vertical lines demonstrate movement because when we walk we are standing vertical.
