Puck lights and trim lip slightly jutting out above cabinets. nice, simple feature. Nice right corner wood trim detail above fridge. easy to do. This is actually really good looking. Take those lower cabinets all the way up to the top. Dump Chimney, add micro. Stone tile the top. Or paint. Could work!

the cool light hanging from ceiling adds drama to the angled ceiling, easy and cheap. The cabinets are okay. The rest is a bit vanilla.

Simple backsplash tile glass with some bling. Tile under micro/cabinets ... maybe use stone above in angle. wrong color cabs and traditional ... but something interesting here. Island shape? I really like the simplicity of this wall tile.

nice big island PAINT above cabinets, too blond and yuck on the see thru cab doors. remove the chimney and stove, but add a sink and it might be close to your footprint.

something potentially interesting in use of a textured wall covering that blends cabinets to up to the ceiling, vs. taking wood all the way up there. Not rattan and chintzy looking though.

Just LOVE this ... wood on wall, under island lighting, the 3 dramatic pendants on angled ceiling. Probably too contemporary for you guys but there are some stunning elements in this.
