We have worked with Bill McCance on a number of projects and are more than happy to recommend them to any of our clients!

We did a major renovation project at our small island Library here on Mayne. Bill was our Contractor for the project and was responsible for removing the old shelving, desk and furniture; overseeing the electrical work, replacement of the old flooring and painting. He also adapted a new service desk and built a book-return bin. Bill was dependable and was always on or ahead of schedule. He was willing to make adaptations and to give suggestions for improvements. All work included in the contract was done within the original contract quote.

I recommend Bill's company with no hesitation. He and his team just did excellent work on a complex basement room renovation - including window and door installations, foundation work, raising the floor, installing oak flooring and other finishing carpentry and other exterior building envelope work. Bill is professional, reliable and a nice, friendly guy! He provided regular project progress reports with photos, and kept to his schedule. It was a treat to have Bill's wealth of industry experience directed at our relatively small project. The result was some welcome design suggestions, attention to all the details, and a job well done. If I needed a whole house built, I would call Bill!

Bill came over to help me with a closet organization project most recently. I have seen his work before and have always been impressed with the quality of the finishing and the design sense that he has. My closet was restructured and is several times more functional, useful and visually appealing.

Bill and his team did an excellent job removing my old deck and building a new and expanded deck! They paid attention to the little details to ensure the decks lasts a long time!

Bill McCance worked with us in preparing a building on our property to meet building inspection guidelines. Bill was accommodating and was able to complete work in the time that was required. He communicated well, letting us know what he was doing, when it was going to happen and why. His expertise and knowledge of procedures and names of trades people on the island was also very good; this was helpful, as we were not always present when work or inspectors were needed, or going to be on site. What started out as a simple roof replacement at our island summer home evolved into a comprehensive assessment and rebuilding of a wide range of items that we had neglected and overlooked over the years. Bill's understanding of historical building practices are a huge benefit when renovating an older home, and his workmanship and grasp of modern construction technologies ensure that his projects will last for decades to come. Bill did a great job of prioritizing the items that needed attention most, all the while keeping the spending under control. Since we were away from the project for much of the process, he kept us updated by sending us photos to keep us in the loop! Bill and his team were extremely pleasant and helpful at every turn of the way, and we are very satisfied with the result. I would recommend him highly.

Our cottage developed water damage as the result of its location on the windward side of an ocean location. II contacted Bill and he immediately surveyed the damage and developed a strategy to remedy the problem. Bill recruited 2skilled tradesmen and and began work immediately . He kept me up to date on our progress and issues that needed attention . As a result, the project was finished in a timely manner. Bill has done or arranged various jobs for me. I found him to be very reliable and knowledgeable as well as good to deal with. His work on a tile floor was meticulous and I am very pleased with the result. When he hired or recommended sub-contractors, they were all very good too, and I know I can trust his judgment. If I have any further renovation work, I will call on Bill again.

Recently I entered into a second renovation collaboration with Bill McCance. The former one was in 1998; a total home renovation on our 1960 house in Pemberton, and I couldn’t have been more pleased with the result. Being a novice at this myself, the project was intimidating but Bill made every step painless. He provided me with weekly spreadsheets so I was always updated on budget, and made aware of what comes next so I had time to make decisions. His crew is superb and he is a hands-on contractor. His timeline for completion was pretty much perfect as well. In February of 2014 we had a 3-hour meeting on site to discuss the scope of work on an apartment renovation in North Vancouver. It was to be a total kitchen gut as well as some tweaks on the fireplace and other areas. Once I picked out my appliances, tile and backsplash, kitchen sink and faucet there was no need for me to be there at all. I actually chose my cabinetry (layout and materials) and countertops by email with Bill’s advice and the result is fantastic. Once again Bill produced a top quality product, on time, and on budget. It’s pretty telling how much I trust his ability when the finishing touches were done while I was vacationing in Mexico! Can you do the contracting yourself? Sure, but unless you are experienced and have a good crew the headaches, and potential costly errors along the way are not worth it. I believe I saved money by limiting my involvement to décor decisions and hiring a professional. As they say “Let the baker bake the bread.” He is extremely organized, a perfectionist, and his integrity and quality of work are impeccable. I hope to work with him again.
