About Us

Hofmann Construction Ltd. is a small, owner-operated residential construction company based in North Saanich. Since 2007, we have been completing substantial renovations, additions, and detailed residential projects throughout the Saanich Peninsula and Greater Victoria. We are currently completing our residential builder licensing and look forward to offering custom new homes soon. Choosing a contractor for a major project requires a great deal of trust. You are opening your home, making a significant investment, and relying on someone to guide you through months of decisions. We understand how personal that is and take the responsibility seriously. Our clients work directly with Paul and Laura from the first conversation through to completion. Paul brings more than 20 years of hands-on residential construction experience and leads the work on site. He believes in doing things properly from the beginning, using sound building practices, and creating work that is solid, well finished, and built to last. Paul is also very mindful of each client’s investment. He plans ahead, keeps projects moving, and looks for practical ways to use time, labour, and materials efficiently. Protecting the budget never means cutting corners, it means avoiding unnecessary waste and making thoughtful decisions. Laura manages communication, estimating, permitting, scheduling, and project administration, keeping clients informed and everything behind the scenes organized. Our approach is open, honest, and direct. Quality workmanship matters deeply to us, but so does knowing our clients feel informed, comfortable, and genuinely cared for throughout their project. We hired Hofmann Construction for a full renovation of our home, and it turned out beautifully, we absolutely love it. We went back and forth early on about whether to tear the house down and rebuild or renovate what was there. Paul walked us through both options, and we ended up going with the renovation. We're so glad we did. What stood out most was the communication. Paul and Laura kept us informed throughout, and when a few unexpected things came up along the way, which is normal with a project this size, Paul always took the time to explain our options and help us land on the best solution. We always knew where things stood. The final cost stayed in line with what we'd discussed before the project started, and any changes were talked through with us first, which gave us real peace of mind. Paul's crew and every trade he brought in were kind and respectful, and we always felt completely comfortable having them in our home. The quality of the work was excellent from start to finish. We'd hire Hofmann Construction again without hesitation, and we'd happily recommend them to anyone considering a renovation or new build.

We used Hofmann Construction to build a massive covered outdoor kitchen, living area and a custom deck for our hot tub. Paul and his team were efficient and the craftsmanship went beyond my expectations. I appreciated Paul's communication and attention to details. Hofmann Construction completed a full renovation of our home, and we couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out. From the beginning, communication was very good and easy. We always felt informed, and the regular budget updates were really helpful and much appreciated. It was also nice having Paul around most of the time, keeping everything organized and the project moving along. The quality of the work is excellent. All of the trades coming through the house were friendly, respectful, and a pleasure to have around. I always felt comfortable having them in our home, which meant a lot during such a big renovation. We feel very fortunate to have worked with Paul and his team on our whole house renovation - both inside and out. Paul is clearly very passionate about his work which results in great craftsmanship and attention to detail. Paul and team have always been very helpful and accessible as well as solution oriented. When unexpected issues arose, including the pandemic, Paul always provided us with options and solutions that would both address the circumstances as well as meet our needs. With us being new to Vancouver Island and often out of town, we knew we could trust Paul to coordinate all aspects of the job, from obtaining permits, providing us with a designer, coordinating all trades as well as, personally doing the work himself. Paul and his very competent crew created an amazing new kitchen for us in our 1907 Maclure house. The large room was stripped right back to the studs, the floor levelled, all new plumbing and wiring installed, and bespoke cabinets, large island and pantry unit created and installed. Due to the age of the house, there were many challenges which Paul and his crew overcame with ease. We could not be happier with the results and continue to enjoy our very busy and lively kitchen! Paul and his team did an amazing job renovating and insulating our home! Over 9 months, they transformed our 1970's split level from a ugly, neglected and inefficient home to one that is not only comfortable all year but also a pleasure to cook in and a joy to come home to. Paul has extensive knowledge and experience in all aspects of renovation, is a phenomenal leader and mentor to his employees and completed all work to an exceptionally high level. We relied on Paul to plan and coordinate many of the building envelope upgrades and were very impressed with his professionalism and attention to detail. Our original energy usage before Paul Hofmann Construction started was 216 GJ/year. It was lowered to 54 GJ/year (which is well below the 85 GJ/year energy usage of a new house) after the work was complete. This phenomenal increase in efficiency would not have been possible if not for the high level of collaboration Paul brings to the job, his attention to detail and excellent ability to source and coordinate subcontractors.

As a Designer, I have worked with many contractors, the good and the not so good. It has been an absolute pleasure of mine working with Paul & his construction team! Paul has an in-depth knowledge of construction and quality workmanship. Paul's work ethic, positive attitude, and most importantly attention to detail; made my job as a Designer a lot easier! My husband found Paul Hofmann through the Internet when we were researching outdoor living space ideas. We highly recommend him and his team. What drew us to consult with Paul was the idea of an off-site construction for pergolas. The thought of not having to hear chain saws and hammers for days on end was quite appealing. We were also very impressed with the look of the projects he had completed and the quality of the materials he used. When Paul came to our house for the consultation he was on time, very polite and informative. He provided options and helped us price out the best materials for our budget. His estimate of work came in relatively close to projected, and the difference in price was mostly related to changes in cost with the secondary project (excavation and widening of existing desk space, and laying of cement pavers) and not due to cost over-runs on his part at all. Each day he and his team were on-site, they were courteous, respectful and left the site cleaner then when they arrived; which was quite a challenge as the secondary project was pretty muddy! Through his creative design and attention to detail, our back yard now has some serious wow factor!

Paul Hoffman Construction completed a 3-tiered 1200 sq. ft. Ipe deck for us this fall (2013). The deck overlooks a small lake just outside Victoria, BC. It includes a thru deck tree, hot tub area, small bistro sitting area, and a larger BBQ entertainment area. We are extremely pleased with the results. Paul, Josh and crew demonstrated the highest degree of professionalism throughout this project. Their knowledge and attention to detail was outstanding. The particularly dense Ipe harwood is challenging to work with requiring extra skill, quality tools and superb craftsmanship. Every aspect of the project was addressed with care and integrity. We would not hesitate to recommend this exceptionally hardworking firm to anyone.

I worked with Paul and his wife Laura in the fall and winter of 2013 and cannot speak highly enough of their business and professionalism. They are extremely responsive to suggestions, polite, great communicators, and treat their team well. The projects I've seen from PHC are of high calibre and I would recommend them without hesitation.

I hired Paul Hofmann Construction to perform carpentry work on a duplex renovation in which the building was lifted off its foundation, the interior completely gutted and was reframed including structural upgrades. I found Paul and his whole crew to be extremely professional in their dealings with me acting as general contractor and with other trades working on the site. There were able to effectively communicate timelines for different stage of completion and collaborated with other trades to do the best job possible. I am very satisfied with the overall finished product and wouldn't hesitate to work with them again. Andrew Mills

We really enjoyed working with Paul and his team in building our ipe wood deck. Paul is extremely professional and caring. The team's attention to detail was exemplary - they did not just "measure twice and cut once" but continually checked and rechecked their work. They had great ideas to add to the project and worked very well together. They have the finest tools, which were needed for this very hard wood. The result was precision craftsmanship - more like cabinetry than decking - very impressive. Paul Hoffman Construction is an exceptional company. We would definitely use them again!
