My husband and I decided to completely renovate the kitchen of our new home. We were quite apprehensive, having never undertaken a renovation of any kind, much less taking down walls and gutting a kitchen. We knew we needed help so we contacted Audrey Postma of InsideOut Design to work with us create a plan for the perfect kitchen.
We immediately felt comfortable with her. She listened carefully to our thoughts and ideas. She asked questions and took note of our tastes and style preferences. She clarified not only the functionality we would need within the space, but how we envisioned a beautiful kitchen that would connect seamlessly with the rest of the home.
Working with us every step of the way, Audrey created a meticulous, detailed design for a gorgeous kitchen that included everything from cabinetry layout, electrical drawings, lighting plans, finishes, appliances, and hardware. With that, we were able to get an excellent quote from our contractors, Tony and Sean Penner from Twoplank Contracting (see our review of their work on Houzz).
Audrey worked closely with the contractors from the beginning to the end of the project. They had an excellent rapport, and the communication between them meant that work proceeded smoothly, with no delays or rework. Things were done right the first time.
Audrey was sensitive to the constraints of the budget, and advised us where savings could be made, but also where a splurge or two would have the most impact. When we expanded the scope of the project – and we did, more than once – she integrated the changes into the existing plan quickly and cost effectively.
When it came to choosing finishes such as lighting, colours, countertops and hardware Audrey was superb. We were nervous at times because we didn’t want to make a mistake that we would have to live with, perhaps for years. But she encouraged us to be open to options we never would have considered without her vision and expertise. As it turns out, many of the things we love most about our new kitchen are the things we chose when Audrey took us beyond the boundaries of our old style preferences.
Audrey was a delight to work with. She is experienced, skilled, and professional. She has a warm personal style and excellent communications skills. We never felt that she wanted to impose “fashionable” or “trendy” design, rather that she wanted to design a timeless kitchen that we would love and enjoy for many years to come. She certainly achieved that, and more. We are thrilled with our new kitchen.
