We make it our mission to ensure each and every one of the valuable clients that we serve have a positive experience and are saddened, that after our numerous email exchanges you have chosen to showcase your dissatisfaction on this forum.
Our expertise lies in knowing the local market, what appeals to buyers in this area and how to showcase a home to appeal to those buyers and we assume that is why sellers hire us to stage their homes. Being hired to stage your beach house, not design it, this was our focus. When we met, we discussed the issue of having to try to find rental furnishings of the appropriate scale, due to the unusually small width of the space. We were limited to what rental furnishings we had available, or were available elsewhere in Southern Ontario from third party suppliers. Together we determined that mid century modern furnishings might be the only option, if they were available to rent. I explained that I hoped they might be available somewhere and would do my best. At no time did you suggest that we purchase furnishings to design your space, rather than stage it.
As you are aware, most of the furnishings were indeed mid century modern mixed with a few more live-edge pieces, with beautiful woods meant to bring warmth and coziness to an otherwise stark white beach house. Far from being traditional, we felt this was the best staging strategy for your property and we stand by our expert decision. We even went so far as to have a cocktail table custom made to enhance traffic flow, due to the unusually narrow width of the living room.
Had you in fact hired us as interior designers, we would have worked closely with you to purchase furnishings, artwork and décor accessories to provide you with a look that pleased your personal tastes. The fact is, you hired us for our expertise to stage your beach house to appeal to potential buyers who were seeking a property in that area. You agreed that the selection of the rental furnishings and décor, as well as the staging design was to be made solely at the discretion of the Best Dressed Homes experts, and our job is to appeal to the potential buyer, rather than the personal tastes of the seller.
We are confident that had our staging remained in place, the beach house would have sold quickly and would not still be sitting on the market 8 months later. We would be pleased to further assist you in whatever way possible to improve the marketability of your property and get it sold.
