Since 2005, Mattern & FitzGerald has built beautiful custom homes in San Antonio, Boerne, New Braunfels and surrounding areas. Our award-winning team and focus on process has allowed us in a relatively short amount of time to be recognized as one of the largest custom home builders in the area. It is a very BIG decision to make when finding the team of people that will build your home! 1.Will they care as much as you do, if not more? 2.Can they realize the quality that I expect? 3.Are they willing to guide me through the decisions that will make a difference at the end since I cannot see past the moment at hand? 4.Are they experts at what they do? 5.Will they care?? The answer to all those questions, when dealing with Mattern and Fitzgerald, is a resounding: “YES!” It took a year to build our home and the process was as smooth as we could have hoped it to be. AND…we continue to reach out with questions and Jason Mattern and his team are VERY available and VERY supportive. When you are building the place you will call home, there is nothing more important and Jason and his team know this. And you feel it EVERY time you interact with him and his team. There are uncomfortable conversations that are had when building a home and making changes and it is a LOT of money that you are committing to a project. NO ONE knows this more and makes you feel that they understand this throughout the process than Mattern and Fitzgerald. They are still in the game and I will always send people their way because I know that they build a quality home that they will stand by… even AFTER they are done with the project and that they communicate well and are not afraid to have tough conversations about the process. They made it fun and easy, while paying much attention to the details we wished to be reflected in our home. This contractor built our house. While our house (for the most part) seems structurally sound the finish work leaves so much to be desired. After almost 4 years we are still redoing caulking, baseboards, exterior doors and more. The ceiling in the kitchen leaked, some of the electrical needed upgrade by a professional electrician, the front electric entry gate has been repaired twice.......and the list goes on. We do not recommend this builder and wish we had gone a different route to build our house.

Pete and Kathy,
It’s unfortunate that you are disappointed with our company. We constantly strive for homeowner satisfaction. You are correct on the structural soundness of the home, we constantly have third party inspectors and municipalities say we over engineer our designs. That will never change, we build them all to last.
In 2 months, you will have lived in the home for 5 years. We know during our first year workmanship warranty period we came out and did the warranty items for you that you requested. We felt like we went above and beyond. I have never been aware of a roof leak in the kitchen. Our roofing subcontractors are second to none and would have come out to address that for you if they would have been notified. The house was inspected by various individuals, engineers and even a third party inspector all throughout the process. The electricians that wired the house are professionals, licensed and wired everything to the electric code at the time the house was built. Any electric related issues the electricians will inspect and repair if necessary for the first two years you live in the home. They nor our company were ever notified of any upgrades needed. There are many annual maintenance items on every new home, one of them being caulking. We use the best caulk that we can buy, but we still talk to our homeowners with their new home orientation about the potential for caulk to crack and deteriorate with climate changes in the home. After 5 years of occupancy, we can guarantee that this has been something you have experienced.
Again, we are truly sorry for your frustrations. We made many attempts after you moved in to address all of your concerns and ultimately wished our efforts would have resulted in different feelings by you.

Mattern & Fitzgerald came highly recommended to us, specifically based on other customers' accolades about their quality, communication, and fairness. We can honestly say they exceeded our expectations in every way. When people ask us what it was like to build our new home, that are always surprised when we respond "great!" with a smile! We felt like we were integral members of Kevin's team for the entire process. Between meetings, phone calls, texts and their portal specifically for the trades working on our site...we were involved real time in each decision, each day. In the end, there were no surprises, just the home of our dreams!

We had never built a home before. Mattern & Fitzgerald walked us through the whole process, and we have been thoroughly amazed at the outcome! The greatest compliment we could give M&F is that WE WOULD DEFINITELY CHOOSE THEM IF WE WERE TO BUILD ANOTHER HOME. They know how to get the most "bang for your buck." They led us in deciding where put our money to give us a fabulous finish-out and detail on a lower budget than most homes in our area. We have seen other homes by M&F and will tell you the broad spectrum of style they can build with excellence is huge! Highly recommend M&F if you are looking to build!

We have known of this company for the past 5 years. We finally built our home in Vintage Oaks this past year and used them as our builder. Keith Wing and Aaron Shreve did a wonderful job managing our building project. They are honest, reliable, and always making you feel confident in the process, which is often overwhelming. We had an overall amazing experience and LOVE our new home. We feel it is a true custom home and I have even had people ask if they could replicate it based on how beautiful it turned out.
