Fantastic, reputable, professional builders. Very happy with the service and the outcome. Eric Reynolds did a fantastic job working with my clients through the entirety of our project. As this was their first time going through a custom home/ remodel, he helped guide them in the project, and was upfront about the cost. When we started making changes half way into it, he reminded us of our budget, and how the changes could extend our estimated completion date, and was always cognizant of our goals. Very professional and easy to work with. Also one of the first to be a custom LEAD Platinum home here in town.

Steigerwald-Dougherty is well-known for building quality homes. From the moment we met Pat Dougherty, we had complete confidence in his ability. We were not disappointed. Pat oversaw every aspect of building our home from the planning stage to the finish. His project manager, Donn Olson, is amazing; he was always on site to coordinate all the subcontractors and did magnificent work in his effort to see every aspect was coordinated and moved along accordingly. Every subcontractor Steigerwald-Dougherty used was top notch! Further, it was easy to contact Pat and Donn so communication was fast and friendly. We are relocating and will use Steigerwald-Dougherty to make many improvements on an existing home. Are we satisfied with their work? You bet!

We first met Pat Dougherty when we moved into an exquisite custom home built by Steigerwald-Dougherty in 1995. We used their company for all the work needed on the home. Five years later we moved into another custom home that requited a considerable amount of renovation. We used them for that remodel and were extremely happy with our business relationship and the work completed. Finally, we purchased another home that was 40 years old and did an extensive remodel, gutting the inside and extending walls. If we had not been pleased with the previous work, we would have used another contractor, but we have nothing but high regard for Pat Dougherty. He is a delight to work with. The subs showed up when expected and the work was completed in a timely manner... especially in light of the fact that we ran into some surprises with an older home. Also, every expense and cost is detailed in the statement, so there were no questionable expense surprises. We highly recommend Steigerwald-Dougherty for all contracting and repairs.

Watch out when hiring a contractor!! I got worried about my project when I was talking to acquaintances that had their house built from ground up or those who got a big remodel job. They all used licensed contractors (some big names, highly reviewed or recommended!), but the deadlines were not only missed but stretched far out, and many have incurred a lot higher cost than initially presented. My project was building a $5M house from ground up and I decided to spend 2 months evaluating all the builders in the area. After talking to 8 of them, going through estimates and their spreadsheets, it was clear that Mr. Steigerwald was the best choice. Not only that he was the easiest to work with during that process, but his spreadsheets (estimates) were the most detailed - important. Other guys had only big items with a lot of room for “adjustments”! Now, a year later my house is done and I can only say “thx God!!” that I picked Staigerwald-Dougherty company. They were great beyond I can describe here! As you can tell, I was very glad when asked to write the review. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! We hired SDI to remodel our home in 2010. We were referred to them from a family friend. Chosing a General Contractor is very personal. Your home is your Castle and it is important to find people who care about YOU as well as the project. Making timely decisions is one of the hardest things we had to do. However, with the help of our superintendent, our timely decisions helped to keep the project moving at a steady pace. There's an old saying, "You get what you pay for." The project was a major investment for us and worth every penny. We hare happy to recommend Patrick Dougherty and David Steigerwald and their crew.

At the recommendation of our architect, and after carefully assessing multiple options, we chose Steigerwald-Daugherty as the builder of our home. Our interface over the years (approx. 10-12 years) has been Dave Steigerwald. Our 4,300 sq foot house, which is upscale and tailored to meet our specific needs, was completed in the year 2003. We have and continue to find Steigerald-doughertyto be responsive, responsible, of highest integrity, and creative/great problem solvers. They are also very easy to work with. What one can never be sure of during the building process is how things will work afterward. Dave (Steigerwald) has always, for 10+ years at this point, been there for us for whatever has been needed. This has and continues to give us tremendous peace of mind. We highly recommend Steigerwald-Dougherty for any of your San Diego/La Jola building needs.
