Modern Icons: The Eames Wire Base Table
Simple modern table is light and versatile enough for every room in the house
These diminutive and minimalist tables were designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1950, back when they were experimenting with welded wire rods and birch plywood. Low and lightweight, they can be moved around with ease and stacked or lined up side by side.
According to the Herman Miller website, the Eameses used these tables when hosting a Japanese tea ceremony for guests Isamu Noguchi and Charlie Chaplin. However you don't need an event like that as an excuse to buy one. Their versatility and style are reason enough.

The simple structure represents everything that Charles and Ray Eames were about – using readily available materials, experimenting with them and taking them beyond their limits; creating smart simple pieces that coordinated with all kinds of styles and coming up with a resulting beautiful and minimalist aesthetic.
At only 10" high, the table can sidle right up to an Eames Lounge Chair in an unobtrusive way.
The table works very well with many mid-century iconic pieces, especially other pieces by the Eameses, like these Eames Molded Plywood Lounge Chairs.
They also can be transformed into a longer coffee/cocktail table when two or three are arranged side by side. The low height is especially appropriate for mid-century sofas, which tend to be quite low to the ground.
They are also low enough to tuck underneath a larger coffee table. You can drag them out when you need an extra surface or want a low ottoman for your feet.
The table is great for playrooms, living rooms and bedrooms.
They are available in black, white and ash finishes. Before seeing this image, I hadn't imagined one of these tables fitting into a sleek white space, but it's a perfect choice.
