The Sub Zero refrigerator is just visible over the Franke sink with Dorn Bracht faucet providing a nice contemporary touch. The veining in the Zebrino Marble countertop is very visible in this shot, giving the eye great horizontal touches to the 12' island. The high ceilings are also clear here, and during the remodel were a must have for the client to open up the space. The blue door leads to a walk in pantry that was also done by the designer (sorry, no pictures). This left the client with more than enough kitchen storage, and allowed Elisabeth the flexibility to use storage as functional or decorative, hence the open shelving.

Historic restoration in a historic district. Complete remodel. Footprint remained the same. Collaboration between owner, architectct Mary Brewster and Historic Commission. all historic detail had been previously removed. Architect: Mary Brewster, Brewster Thornton Group

The attic space was transformed from a cold storage area of 700 SF to useable space with closed mechanical room and 'stage' area for kids. Structural collar ties were wrapped and stained to match the rustic hand-scraped hardwood floors. LED uplighting on beams adds great daylight effects. Short hallways lead to the dormer windows, required to meet the daylight code for the space. An additional steel metal 'hatch' ships ladder in the floor as a second code-required egress is a fun alternate exit for the kids, dropping into a closet below. The main staircase entrance is concealed with a secret bookcase door. The space is heated with a Mitsubishi attic wall heater, which sufficiently heats the space in Wisconsin winters. This view shows how large this space has become after removing the interior walls. It was my suggestion to make the cabinets around the fridge white so that the Blue becomes the pop of color. If the white cabinets were also blue...the kitchen would feel/look smaller.
