This living room designed by Marcye Philbrook is textural, soothing, comfortable and contemporary. The cable rail "holding" up the shelves, concrete mantel in a sandy tone, floating shelves in a very textural laminate, modern fireplace with driftwood inside as well as the warm beiges and cool grays playing off of each other remind one of the natural Maine shore.

Filling a large great room is always a challenge. I used two large matching sofas and designed a large cocktail table to service both sofas. The table was made by Seth Woods.
The sofa fabric is contract grade to be child and pet friendly. The rug is polypropylene and very stain resistant as well.
The window treatments are sheer lined with sheer to filter the light and frame the window nicely.
The sofa table is a custom design. We wanted to bring a metal finish into the room and we wanted to place the 2 storage benches under it to conceal toys. The arched stretcher in the design allows for that. This was fabricated by Small Axe Forge and Daylight Cabinetry.
We used neutral tones and textures to keep the room calm and serene. The red accents were brought in to add warmth and depth.

This modern lakeside farmhouse living room blends luxury and functionality, highlighted by a stone fireplace with a wood mantel as its centerpiece. Vaulted ceilings with exposed wood beams create a spacious and open feel, while built-in floating shelves provide stylish storage and display options. The room is filled with natural light from large windows, complementing the warm tones of the wide-plank hardwood flooring. The inviting design extends into a nearby entryway featuring a charming, light-filled aesthetic, making this Lake LBJ custom home a standout in modern farmhouse living.

Although the original plan was to refurbish the existing mantelpieces in the living and dining rooms, the Williamsons opted for a complete change of perspective. “One thing led to another, and they came out,” Catherine explains. “First, we removed them to check if the pest problem that had hit the rest of the house had hit the mantels, and it did.” After removing the original pieces, the couple fell in love with the brick arches underneath.
Flexing their skills as DIYers, the couple designed and built a floating mantel to highlight the fireplace. Its modern lines play against rich grain and warm tones to embody the marriage of Bryan and Catherine’s diverse styles. “Our style is unique because we tend to mix elements of different design styles,” Catherine says. “We love mixing old and new, masculine and feminine, and so on…. He tends to gravitate toward contemporary, sleek designs, where I gravitate toward more eclectic, feminine elements.”
