Living room - coastal living room idea in Miami with white walls and a standard fireplace

Bedrooms are one of my favorite rooms in the home, a bedroom must be comfortable and serene. I design master bedrooms as a private retreat for my clients.
Elements of a great bedroom include:
-Foundation: Don’t underestimate the power of a great night’s sleep. Your matress is the most important element in the room. We have some tips below from Chicago Luxury Beds about how to select the right mattress for you. Chicago Luxury Beds is providing a wonderful mattress for the model showcase we are creating at the Ritz Carlton Residences. You’ll have to come by and see it for yourself, stay tuned for the opening in March.
-Fabulous Sheets: I love Pratesi, they make the softest most luxurious bedding in the marketplace.
-Bedding Toppers: Accent pillows, cashmere blankets or a colorful throw will pull your entire room together.
-Create a Focal Point: Use a great wallcovering, window treatment, piece of art or fireplace.
-Mix and Match Furniture: Bedroom sets are a thing of the past. I love creating full dressing rooms for my clients and keeping furniture within the bedroom suite more decorative. Don’t be afraid to mix and match to create an eclectic vibe. Upholstered headboards are still a strong trend and allow for a personal touch by mixing shapes, custom fabrics and trimmings.
-Window Treatments: Don’t skimp on window treatments. Decorative panels add softness to the room while shades should be black-out lined to guarantee a good night’s rest.
-Lighting: I believe there should be a combination of ambient and task lighting in the bedroom. A great chandelier should always be on a dimmer. Bedside lamps or sconces should be on dimmers as well but should be bright enough to read by. Don’t forget lighting should be flattering, we all want to look our best, don’t we?
I hope you enjoy the photo selections from Chicago Luxury Beds, Pratesi, The Gray + Walter Portfolio, Elle Decor and House Beautiful. Good night, sleep tight and don’t let the bed bugs bite.
Big Hugs, Ken

Find the right local pro for your project

A new home can be beautiful, yet lack soul. For a family with exquisite taste, and a love of the artisan and bespoke, LiLu created a layered palette of furnishings that express each family member’s personality and values. One child, who loves Jackson Pollock, received a window seat from which to enjoy the ceiling’s lively splatter wallpaper. The other child, a young gentleman, has a navy tweed upholstered headboard and plaid club chair with leather ottoman. Elsewhere, sustainably sourced items have provenance and meaning, including a LiLu-designed powder-room vanity with marble top, a Dunes and Duchess table, Italian drapery with beautiful trimmings, Galbraith & Panel wallcoverings, and a bubble table. After working with LiLu, the family’s house has become their home.

Rustic meets Urban Chic
Interior designer Rebecca Robeson, mixed the glamour of luxury fabrics, furry rugs, brushed brass and polished nickel, clear walnut… both stained and painted... alongside rustic barn wood, clear oak and concrete with exposed ductwork, to come up with this dreamy, yet dramatic, urban loft style Bedroom.
Three whimsical "Bertjan Pot" pendant lights, suspend above the bed and nightstands creating a spectacular effect against the reclaimed barn wood wall.
At the foot of the bed, two comfortable upholstered chairs (Four-Hands) and a fabulous Italian leather pouf ottoman, sit quietly on an oversized bamboo silk and sheepskin rug. Rebecca adds coziness and personality with 2 oval mirrors directly above the custom-made nightstands.
Adjacent the bed wall, another opportunity to add texture to the 13-foot-tall room with barn wood, serving as its backdrop to a large 108” custom made dresser and 72” flat screen television.
Collected and gathered bedding and accessories make this a cozy and personal resting place for our homeowner.
In this Bedroom, all furniture pieces and window treatments are custom designs by Interior Designer Rebecca Robeson made specifically for this project.

The colorful and contemporary organic vibe continues in the dining room with the use of natural materials such as rock crystal buffet knobs, clamshell and coral wall sconces and a jute wrapped mirror. White foo dogs, dramatic black shades and a gold sculptured dish add a splash of Hollywood Regency.
