The front porch of the existing house remained. It made a good proportional guide for expanding the 2nd floor. The master bathroom bumps out to the side. And, hand sawn wood brackets hold up the traditional flying-rafter eaves.

Arched valances above the window and on the island bookshelf, along with the curved custom metal hood above the stainless steel range, contrast nicely with the overall linear design of the space. The leaded glass cabinet doors not only create a spot to display the homeowner’s favorite glassware, but visually it helps prevent the white cabinets from being overbearing. By installing recessed can lights uniformly throughout the space instead of decorative pendants above the island, the kitchen appears more open and spacious.

Custom cabinet hardware and metal range hood make this rustic mountain kitchen a centerpiece in the house.

This project encompasses the renovation of two aging metal warehouses located on an acre just North of the 610 loop. The larger warehouse, previously an auto body shop, measures 6000 square feet and will contain a residence, art studio, and garage. A light well puncturing the middle of the main residence brightens the core of the deep building. The over-sized roof opening washes light down three masonry walls that define the light well and divide the public and private realms of the residence. The interior of the light well is conceived as a serene place of reflection while providing ample natural light into the Master Bedroom. Large windows infill the previous garage door openings and are shaded by a generous steel canopy as well as a new evergreen tree court to the west. Adjacent, a 1200 sf building is reconfigured for a guest or visiting artist residence and studio with a shared outdoor patio for entertaining. Photo by Peter Molick, Art by Karin Broker

The gunmetal steel skin is expressed inside on the cabinet faces in the kitchen, and a view through the perforated metal skin is apparent.

4,000 feet above sea level in the Southern California desert town of Yucca Valley rests this magnificent steel house prototype from Blue Sky Homes.
The project showcases ASC Building Products’ Iron Ox corrugated wall panel and Design Span® hp standing seam metal roofing.
Iron Ox is made from unpainted and untreated steel which allows the surface to rust and form a natural iron oxide finish. This provides a stunning, aged appearance.
The project also includes a host of other steel products from ASC Building Products’ sister companies, AEP Span and ASC Steel Deck, including structural steel composite floor deck and over 1,200 feet of AEP Span cold-formed structural Cee Sections.

Splashback Trends
Make a stunning statement on your splashback by choosing the same stone used on your benchtop or island. This latest trend is seamless, easy maintenance and creates visual continuity. If budget is a consideration tiling the splashback opens up a multitude of colour and pattern options at an affordable price. Glass is still a favourite and also gives you the possibility of choosing an accent colour to add interest and style to your scheme.
