This project created a singular modern home for clients with two distinct professions; she is an artist; he is a musician. Their directive to Battle Associates was to “design the home of their dreams,” and “make it cool.” As the design evolved, three volumes emerged each with its own individual character. Shapes, materials, and colors reinforced the concept. The “Red Barn” houses a music studio, garage, guest, and children’s bedrooms. The “Industrial” volume is the Art Studio. The “Middle” volume is where the clients live. Each structure has its own set of exterior details, materials, and colors. The three buildings are oriented to maximize views around a man-made pond and a conserved hefty locus tree. Clean, contemporary lines set the tone for the details throughout the project, creating an appropriate environment for displaying artwork. Maple, bamboo, and painted finishes were the predominant palette, complemented with steel and glass for the stairs. Kitchen details favored cut-away pulls instead of hardware. The shell of the entire home was detailed and constructed with a high degree of energy efficiency in mind. Ultra-insulation was the standard with foam panels, triple glazing, and near passive house standards for construction.

My client is an architect and wanted something streamline but that also was relevant to his profession. The wing back chair was distressed leather with cow hide on the back. The Caracole desk was made out of metal and teak wood with see thru glass compartments.

Off Griffin Road on a dead-end cul-de-sac this home sits on 4/10ths of an acre, backing up to an unoccupied Palm-Tree Nursery. The home features three bedrooms and two baths, PLUS a convertible 1-bedroom in-law apartment with another bath, separate kitchen, separate entrance and French Doors overlooking the pool.

We interviewed Chad(left) and Bobby(right), the team of Everett installers who worked on this job! Bobby, What got you into this profession? My father did a LOT of carpentry and home improvement projects. I've been building things since 16 years old and started in the concrete business, and eventually found my way to Renewal! Chad, what was your favorite tool? Cutback tool. It's the only custom tool we use. Chad, what was unique about this job? Definitely the homeowner, we listened to a ton of 80s country music! She loved her dogs and when we told her we had a selfie competition, she had the idea to dress up her dogs so we could take a photo with them in front of the patio door we installed.
