A major aspect of the project included an extensive kitchen remodel, as the previous kitchen was disconnected from the main living area. Our clients wanted a bright and cohesive space to enjoy with their family and friends. New contemporary style, oak cabinets complement the sleek, walnut upper cabinets and island. Teak wood slats found behind a section of floating upper cabinets elegantly hide the staircase leading to the first floor.

The original kitchen had the refrigerator sticking out into the kitchen passage area. We installed a built-in Sub-Zero model that only projected to counter depth, and to install a custom wood panel on it matching the cabinetry. This made the refrigerator look like the cabinets and reduced its visual presence. We also moved the range to the center of the side wall space which provided 4 feet of prep area on either side of the range. The soffits were removed from overhead and the cabinets were brought to the ceiling around the kitchen perimeter to gain more storage space.

Homeowner wanted a modern wet bar with hints of rusticity. These custom cabinets have metal mesh inserts in upper cabinets and painted brick backsplash. The wine storage area is recessed into the wall to allow more open floor space

An airy and light feeling inhabits this kitchen from the white walls to the white cabinets to the bamboo countertop and to the contemporary glass pendant lighting. Glass subway tile serves as the backsplash with an accent of organic leaf shaped glass tile over the cooktop. The island is a two part system that has one stationary piece closes to the window shown here and a movable piece running parallel to the dining room on the left. The movable piece may be moved around for different uses or a breakfast table can take its place instead. LED lighting is placed under the cabinets at the toe kick for a night light effect. Saving the original stained glass picture window from 1916, we created a focal point with a custom designed arch alcove with dentil molding. Leaded glass upper cabinets add ambiance and sparkle to the compact kitchen.
