The front of the house features an open porch, a common feature in the neighborhood. Stairs leading up to it are tucked behind one of a pair of brick walls. The brick was installed with raked (recessed) horizontal joints which soften the overall scale of the walls. The clerestory windows topping the taller of the brick walls bring light into the foyer and a large closet without sacrificing privacy. The living room windows feature a slight tint which provides a greater sense of privacy during the day without having to draw the drapes. An overhang lined on its underside in stained cedar leads to the entry door which again is hidden by one of the brick walls.

This side entrance is full of special character and elements with Old Chicago Brick floors and arch which also leads to the garage and back brick patio! This is the perfect setting for the beach to endure the sand coming in on those bare feet! Fletcher Isaacs Photographer

This beautiful project features Coronado Stone Products Adobe Brick thin veneer. Adobe Brick thin veneer is not a structural brick, so it can be directly adhered to a properly prepared drywall or plywood substrate. Wanting to maintain the traditional look of their eye-catching fireplace, we decided against mounting the TV above the mantel. We designed custom cabinets that flank each side of the fireplace and discreetly house the television components. By faux painting these cabinets using the color of the surrounding walls, this dominating feature wall effortlessly blends in with the rest of this space. This scullery kitchen is located near the garage entrance to the home and the utility room. It is one of two kitchens in the home. The more formal entertaining kitchen is open to the formal living area. This kitchen provides an area for the bulk of the cooking and dish washing. Homeowners in hip, downtown Chicago wanted a contemporary update for their open-concept kitchen and living room. Designer, Hannah Tindall, paired pops of bright orange and chartreuse with sleek gray cabinets and furnishings. We added a white, exposed brick wall as a unique accent piece to the living room. The custom kitchen island with waterfall edges adds extra space for cooking, while dropping down several inches on one end to become the homeowner's dining area. The final home result is a true blend of utility, sophistication, and cheer.

The Broome Street Loft is a beautiful example of a classic Soho loft conversion. The design highlights its historic architecture of the space while integrating modern elements. The 14-foot-high tin ceiling, metal Corinthian columns and iconic brick wall are contrasted with clean lines and modern profiles, creating a captivating dialogue between the old and the new. The plan was completely revised: the bedroom was shifted to the side area to combine the living room and kitchen spaces into a larger, open plan space. The bathroom and laundry also shifted to a more efficient layout, which both widened the main living space and created the opportunity to add a new Powder Room. The high ceilings allowed for the creation of a new storage space above the laundry and bathroom, with a sleek, modern stair to provide access. The kitchen seamlessly blends modern detailing with a vintage style. An existing recess in the brick wall serves as a focal point for the relocated Kitchen with the addition of custom bronze, steel and glass shelves. The kitchen island anchors the space, and the knife-edge stone countertop and custom metal legs make it feel more like a table than a built-in piece. The bathroom features the brick wall which runs through the apartment, creating a uniquely Soho experience. The cove lighting throughout creates a bright interior space, and the white and grey tones of the tile provide a neutral counterpoint to the red brick. Exposed brick walls are a great way to make a feature in any space this client did not want to use brick slips so real brick was exposed and the variation in tones makes for a warm and dynamic dining area. What can beat a beautifully painted accent wall? We would have to answer an amazingly textured wall of stone. This stone accent wall idea is covered in Oyster Shell Natural Quartzite Ledge stone. The wall is highlighted with lighting above which captures the natural quartzite adding a sparkle to the finish. Yes, it will cost you more to put stone veneer but it will be worth it. This entire stone panel wall becomes the focal point of the room. This is something that you can do yourself if you have the time and the know how. Create this wall in your home as a weekend project. You really can add stone to your interior wall and make a big impact to any room.
