"To improve accessibility in the kitchen, we decided to open up the existing pantry, providing easier access for the client. Addressing their storage needs was crucial, so we incorporated numerous drawers and cabinets, complete with cutlery dividers, pegged drawer organizers, and utensil trays. With a ceiling height of 120 inches, we maximized storage by stacking wall cabinets, reserving space for items not used daily. To enhance the pantry area, we installed a glass cabinet as a focal point. Witnessing such a transformation and the joy it brings to the homeowners is truly remarkable."

Albers Design LLCA previous client (Big Wood Lane) reached out to us to help design a remodel of a recently purchased on the south shore of Lake Minnetonka. The home had grown organically since its original construction in 1945. It had evolved over time to accommodate the needs of its numerous owners. Our client brought a new set of needs to the home that included a desire to make the lake home a comfortable destination for family and friends.
The project consisted of reconfiguring an outdated, inefficient kitchen, expansion of the bedroom wing to include individual bathrooms for bedrooms and redesign of the central stair guard rail.
The redesign of the kitchen included repositioning major appliances for greater efficiency, more seating at an enlarged island, a new pantry, and expanded views to the lake. The expansion of the bedroom wing included eliminating a three-season porch on top of the garage on the inland side of the home. The space above the garage roof was enclosed and turned into dedicated bathrooms for each bedroom. These bathrooms are accessible only from the bathrooms which provide privacy and convenience to visitors.

When new owners moved in the needed a bigger, more contemporary kitchen. They turned to Andrew Lee Architecture, who designed an elegant solution. The new design stays true to the original style of the home while adding numerous practical feature and modern conveniences. The idea of the redwood divider between kitchen and dining/living spaces is preserved, but is expanded to include much larger openings, a counter that can be accessed from either side, and smooth tracking systems for the shudders. The previously small kitchen was enlarged to include a comfortable breakfast nook, playfully colored cabinets and efficient workspace. The entire kitchen, dining and living areas are surrounded by vistas of the San Francisco Bay and the surrounding redwood forest.
