It’s warm in Southern California, and that’s exactly the feeling Andy and Liz sought to maintain inside their new Tuscan-style home as they embarked on a modern interior makeover. After all, the couple had two small children and a dog to consider. Empty and austere simply wasn’t a good fit for the young family whose interests include photography, art and lots of Lego’s. Andy, an engineer, became intrigued with Cantoni after driving past the Irvine location on his daily commute. It wasn’t long before he and Liz decided to venture into the Los Angeles showroom, and that’s where they met Bernadette. By all accounts, the trio made for great collaboration, and the project that began in February 2012 is still a work in progress today. “We were impressed by Bernadette,” says Andy. “We liked her and her work, and she won us over.” The project began with pictures sent and an in-home walk-through where measurements were taken. The couple knew they wanted furnishings for the living, dining and family rooms, as well as the media room and a study. They were open to art and accent pieces, and hoped to incorporate natural elements into the mix. Bernadette set to work. “It was fun touring our LA showroom and listening to Liz and Andy discuss their likes and dislikes. One thing was for sure,” she adds, “the Laguna Sectional was going in their theater room even if we needed to knock out a wall!” UpstairsPhase I of the job is complete (as you can see from the stunning images), but instead of parting ways, Andy and Liz decided to have Bernadette help re-imagine the master bedroom and kitchen, next. Che Interiors worked closely with our client to plan, design, and implement a renovation of two children’s rooms, create a mudroom with laundry area in an unused downstairs space, renovate a kitchenette area, and create a home office space in a downstairs living room by adding floor to ceiling room dividers. As the children were growing so were their needs and we took this into account when planning for both kids’ rooms. As one child was graduating to a big kids room the other was moving into their siblings nursery. We wanted to update the nursery so that it became something new and unique to its new inhabitant. For this room we repurposed a lot of the furniture, repainted all the walls, added a striking outer-space whale wallpaper that would grow with the little one and added a few new features; a toddlers busy board with fun twists and knobs to encourage brain function and growth, a few floor mats for rolling around, and a climbing arch that could double as a artist work desk as the little grows. Downstairs we created a whimsical big kids room by repainting all the walls, building a custom bookshelf, sourcing the coolest toddler bed with trundle for sleepovers, featured a whimsical wonderland wallpaper, adding a few animal toy baskets, we sourced large monstera rugs, a toddlers table with chairs, fun colorful felt hooks and a few climbing foam pieces for jumping and rolling on. For the kitchenette, we worked closely with the General Contractor to repaint the cabinets, add handle pulls, and install new mudroom and laundry furniture. We carried the kitchenette green color to the bathroom cabinets and to the floor to ceiling room dividers for the home office space. Lastly we brought in an organization team to help de-clutter and create a fluid everything-has-its-place system that would make our client’s lives easier.

This Linworth area family friendly kitchen was remodeled by J.S. Brown & Co. with a focus on the specific needs of the homeowners. A walk in pantry, super wide farm sink, and extra tall counters are personalized to fit their wish list. Every detail was considered and accounted for!

The client's did the work themselves on this on and I do say did a fabulous job. We helped them make the design choices, did the quotes, and purchasing to save them money by using our trade accounts, but they chose to general the project and get help where needed. They used our awesome tiler Jacob and were very happy to have spent the money on that portion. The cabinets were not in budget to paint so we made choices that went well with the existing stain, but also modernized and brightened the space. Overall, the kitchen and powder bath look brand new and the client's didn't overspend to do so!

If you could only imagine what is happening in this backyard. The outdoor living space all circumvents around the views of the coastal inlet of West Islip, NY. A complete redo after the pool installation by the waterfront backyard. This amazing transition took into account the limited space and desires of the homeowner to be able to cook, dine, entertain and relax under the Cabana by the pool at any given moment anytime of the season.

The place where dreams intertwine with reality is a teenager’s bedroom, a space where time marks its passage in a timeless way. For this room, the sighs of childhood that still echo have been taken into account, and the decoration expresses exactly that feeling, brought about by the Milos night table and the Sublime stool.

Allow me another intriguing observation: this one (this interior door, that is) is best suited to bulk orders. Which isn’t to say this one does not fall into the category of affordable luxury (just something we specialize in here at Almese Doors). It certainly does. It has most of the wonderful features characteristic of the brand to recommend it. It was lovingly and imaginatively designed. The name, should you be wondering, is a variation of that of the lovable, honest and faithful Shakespearean heroine (the play, of course, would be The Twelfth Night, one of the happiest and light-hearted comedies the bright British wordsmith ever composed, and arguably the most popular). Only natural wood is used to put it together, which is both aesthetically pleasant and env... Show more! FINISH: WHITE This is a bit tricky. Isn’t White the default finish that would look great on any interior door? Well, not quite. W. is the color most often associated with perfection, honesty, cleanliness, newness, neutrality, and exactitude. The pigment has been known and used by humans since prehistoric times. In ancient Egypt, W. symbolized purity. Roman patricians paraded around in W. togas to distinguish themselves from the common folk. It was the color of choice of French monarchs. Architects of all epochs used W., with considerable enthusiasm, in various projects and for various reasons. In the United States, architects favored it when designing churches, capitols, and municipal buildings – which is, in fact, a tradition they inherited from classical and Renaissance architecture. According to some experts, most of the buildings in the celebrated Forum were either made of, or clad in, W. marble. In Taoism, it represents the yang or masculine energy, one of the two complementary natures of the universe. Many authors, both classical and contemporary, have referred to W. as a sign of purity, either physical (like William Shakespeare, whose treacherous usurper monarch wishes a heavenly rain would cleanse his blood-stained hand, washing it “white as snow”) or spiritual (like Tennessee Williams, who named his lead character Blanche (derived, incidentally, from the Germanic word blanc)) as a symbol of her innocent child-like spirit, perceptible from the moment she makes her first entrance (through the interior door stage-left).
