A master bedroom with rich color, texture and personality! With a colorful master bathroom that blends the perfect matte finish, semi-primitive blast of pattern with rich, saturated jewel tones and a little calacatta gold tile – determining the best fabrics and finishes for the master bedroom felt like a HUGE challenge. How do you stand up to something so fabulously unique and still create a soft respite for someone to slumber?! This bedroom was a small space with existing Vetrazzo floors and an entire wall dedicated to floor-to-ceiling fixed glass pane windows. Between the cracks in the plaster ceiling and the lacquered pink dresser we knew we had our work cut out. Saturated colors create a fairy tale bedroom Fast forward to finding the perfect, sumptuously soft evergreen mohair for the headboard and furry tuffets for the foot of the bed. Texture became the name of the game and a certain level of color variation had to tie through from selection to selection. Cladding the walls with a gilt woven cloth wall covering that also pulled a sort of skin-tone clay from detail found in the Vetrazzo flooring (OMG! so pretty!) and grounding everything with a sort of deco-inspired one-of-a-kind wool rug. The layers of unexpected style helped develop a more collected – less stylized – feeling overall. Then it was bye-bye to the pink lacquer! A local artisan worked on a faux finish for the custom dresser that the client had already invested in and we just gave it a refresh with a deep bronze finish. Balancing this piece with the playful silk tassel pendant lights that frame a beautiful original painting of red headed queens by artist Nancy Rhodes Harper. A Tried and true Coastal Home Remodel What do you get when a client asks – do we really need this staircase??BRILLIANT! The end result so specifically focused on a better use of space. We so wish more new construction plans were focused on this! (Call us if you’re struggling with this, too!) From poorly put together Tommy Bahama, to fresh with a nod to mod. This new kitchen space is anchored by a large working island that is perfect for entertaining. With dedicated storage around back, the island acts a bit as it’s own pantry too. The raised bar top provided a fun feature of a more coastal feeling wood-finish that really made the kitchen in our opinion. We also love the gained breakfast nook (that’s what losing a set of stairs will get you!). As well as, the soft touch that a simple set of sheers and beautiful chandy offer to really tone this space down. Living Room Refresh Not far beyond, the living room was a real refresh as well. Updating old tan chenille sofas with an amazing white crypton sectional. Creating space for big groups or the perfect sleepover spot when you have a few extra kids in the house. Swivels by the french doors offer extra seating for the TV area. The beloved soft plum cocktail ottoman is perfect for those who like to put their feet up! Also great for a tray to have snacks at hand! Throughout the interior spaces – this project was about lightening and brightening. Thus, making each dedicated area feel more congruous and fresh. There is a definite beach-y feel, accented perfectly by that fantastic view framed by those pretty sheers, but the overall mood feels transitional and fresh and forward thinking. A timeless space for them to enjoy in any season here on the Gulf!

Montauk Beach House This three ­story, split level house for a young family is nestled atop a densely wooded bluff in Montauk, New York, surrounded by sumac and spruce trees. Space Exploration designed an open kitchen on the top floor of the house to act as a flexible social center for the house, and to maximize the site's dramatic views of Fort Pond and Fort Pond Bay. Floor­to­ceiling sliding doors and a large rectangular skylight flood the space with an abundance of natural light. Space Exploration employed a material palette of light, neutral colors and pale woods, which combine to create a tranquil, airy atmosphere that showcase an eclectic collection of furniture and objects, collected by the owners during travels to Morocco, Europe and Central America. A lone primitive wooden dining chair, abandoned by the house's previous owners, sits happily in the mix. In order to preserve an honest, informal feeling in the architecture, Space Exploration chose to expose and express the house's structure wherever possible, and conceived a new wooden stair that mirrors the simple construction vernacular of the floor framing.
