During a showroom meeting with Lana Galloway, CKBR, UDCP, while preparing selections for their Downers Grove Kitchen remodel, their third project in six years, our clients received a startling phone message; there was water coming out from under the door into the hallway of their 15th floor Sandburg Village apartment. This was to be their refuge while their suburban Kitchen was removed! The kitchen waste stack, located at the Kitchen sink, had backed up into the unit. The issue had gone unnoticed for several days while the water encompassed a large amount of the unit, causing wood floor, cabinets and drywall damage. Before Before Before Before Before Before Before Before Insurance claims were swiftly filed and soon Galloway began designing a second kitchen remodel. Our clients were so disgruntled, their first thought was to repair only enough to sell, but once the drawings and material selections began, there was a change of heart. By removing the entry closet/book shelf, Galloway was able to enlarge the existing kitchen footprint. In the new design, the refrigerator was moved to the right of the buildings existing chase, the chase was then disguised with a false pantry door, the Peninsula seated area was repositioned, and the work aisle expanded with the additional cabinetry on the sink wall. The dark stained engineered flooring, installed to the strict codes of the building, creates a sleek back-drop for the contemporary cabinetry. The beauty inside this unit now matches the glorious views of the city and our clients are now enjoying their two new LaMantia Kitchens.

Our clients had a cramped and outdated kitchen that lacked flow. They envisioned a space the family could share, including an eat-in kitchen with an island. Their small master bathroom also needed a facelift, more counter space, and storage options. They desired both spaces to be clean with a modern aesthetic. Thoughtful architectural planning dramatically opened the space in this home to encompass the kitchen, dining, and hallway areas into one unified expanse. JRP removed the soffit and pushed back the appliance wall into the hallway to create the space needed for the central island-a place to hang out while dinner is being made, but also double as an additional food prep area. The cabinetry, along with the quartz backsplash and countertop, made for a clean, modern look. Upstairs, the master bathroom transformed into a clutter-free zen zone. The tiny closet and outdated vanity were removed and replaced by an integrated counter space with white oak cabinetry, drawers, and open space shelving. The dated round-framed mirrors were swapped out in favor of one large, singular mirror. The most used areas in this home are now comfortable and polished with surfaces that are both simple and easy to clean. This remodel design embraces modern living at its best. Originally built in 2007, the King Lake House was primarily used as a 3,720 SF family summer home. It was originally constructed utilizing modest materials such as vinyl windows and siding, basic cabinets and appliances, and faux stone veneers. After the completion of project, the home is now the owner’s primary residence and encompasses 4,216 SF of new or fully renovated space that is situated on a fairly level walkout lot that is within 100’ of the water's edge of Lake Harwell.
