Our clients came to us with a house that did not inspire them but which they knew had the potential to give them everything that they dreamed of. They trusted in our approach and process and over the course of the year we designed and gut renovated the first floor of their home to address the seen items and unseen structural needs including: a new custom kitchen with walk-in pantry and functional island, new living room space and full master bathroom with large custom shower, updated living room and dining, re-facing and redesign of their fireplace and stairs to the second floor, new wide-plank white oaks floors throughout, interior painting, new trim and mouldings throughout.

Dramatic plant textures, modern hardscaping and sharp angles enhanced this mid-century modern bungalow. Soft plants were chosen to contrast with the sharp angles of the pathways and hard edges of the MCM home, while providing all-season interest. Horizontal privacy screens wrap the front porch and create intimate garden spaces – some visible only from the street and some visible only from inside the home. The front yard is relatively small in size, but full of colorful texture.

Runoff from an adjacent state highway and parking lot regularly flooded the kitchen. Additionally, a man-made pond on the property had become a problematic breeding ground for mosquitos that virtually prohibited outdoor dining during the summer. Both challenges restricted the restaurant from operating at its fullest potential. Our design/build team’s goals were to address the water runoff and mosquito issues using environmentally and financially sustainable practices. We addressed the mosquito problem by increasing the pond’s depth, adding an aeration system, and planting the banks with wildflowers.
