The open floor plan in this Lake Gaston lake house allows a clear view of the lake from anywhere in the common living space. White cabinetry and backsplash keep it light and bright while the large plank hardwoods add warmth. We used Medallion Cabinetry in this space.
This kitchen is stationed for a crowd to work in. The chef has the center, a helper can man the ovens and prep, there is a beverage counter with sink, beverage fridge, icemaker and hidden coffee and liquor cabinet allowing 4 people to comfortable work in the same space while leaving room on the back of the island and on the peninsula for eating and serving.

Remodeled single family home. We removed the wall between the tiny kitchen and opened it up to the dining room. The original kitchen was 11' X 13' with a sink in the angled corner. It had a peninsula and felt very closed in and cramped. The new space is 21 1/2' X 18' which makes it very spacious and open. We moved windows to make a good space for the sink and prep area. We matched the floor to make a seamless look to the entire space.
The client hated to entertain in the old space and is now enjoying having people over in a very positive space.

This kitchen features a transitional door style in rag and bone finish on maple. The countertops are Caesarstone Quartz throughout and the generously sized island features a 4' Galley Workstation with KitchenAid five burner induction cooktop. Across from this is a 36" farmhouse cleanup sink. All baking and quick meal cooking is handled by a Bosch microwave and oven ensemble. The bright and clean look of the overall kitchen is contrasted beautifully by the addition of the luxury vinyl flooring.

I love master bathrooms! This before and after was quite amazing! We combined linear travertine flooring with a small scaled mosaic floor in the shower. Duo shower heads allow two people to shower at the same time. Adding interesting furniture pieces that offer additional storage as well as visual interest always helps to aide in making a bathroom look more special and inviting.

To that end, the space features IKEA SEKTION cabinetry framework and light gray custom fronts from Semihandmade along the perimeter base and upper cabinetry. This provides ample storage options and also complements the Carrara marble countertops.
“I had a custom piece of glass put on top of the marble, because I knew our boys would be using the table to draw and I thought it would get trashed!” she adds. This look is enhanced even more by engineered wood flooring as well as a custom vent hood that features subway tile to give the impression of brick.
And, she adds, this was all accomplished for a budget around $10,000.
However, the project wasn’t without its design challenges; namely, designing around the unique footprint of the space and storage concerns as the family keeps kosher.
“We were confined to the amount of square footage, so the layout had to remain long and narrow. We couldn’t make the space any wider, for instance. But we were able to fit everything that we wanted,” she says. In fact, they also added a custom pantry pullout from Rev-A-Shelf.
“I really wanted this kitchen to be beautiful because it was the center of our home. It’s on the main floor when you walk in, right between the family room and the dining room. I can imagine lots of family gatherings,” she concludes.
Although Elisia researched examples of kitchen designs on HOUZZ and Pinterest she was also a first-time remodeler and — admittedly — a bit overwhelmed by IKEA’s Home Planner.
She explains: “We had never done this before but I had read lots of blogs and seen some amazing kitchens that looked custom using IKEA. But I also found the IKEA software a bit daunting. I wanted help to make it easier and to make sure I got it right in terms of measurements and what we needed.”
Enter IKD’s design team, which guided her through the design process and product selection, and also honored that the family keeps kosher.
“Storage was a big concern. We keep kosher so we have two sets of dishes – for milk and meat – and we wanted to make sure we had lots of storage. Previously we had been living in small NYC apartments and storage was limited,” she notes.
She adds: “I actually had a custom cabinet maker come see our raw space and told him what I wanted to do and the quote he gave me was 10 times more than I ended up paying with IKEA — so it was a no-brainer.”
Specifically, the kitchen features a variety of high-end appliances, including a built-in Sub-Zero refrigerator; a Bertazzoni six-burner range with an oven and griddle; a KitchenAid panel-ready dishwasher, and a Sharp microwave drawer.
“We chose custom Semihandmade doors because it was a panel-ready fridge and it turned out really beautifully. The Sharp microwave drawer is hidden in the island because I wanted to preserve the traditional Brownstone feel. The microwave is hidden in the drawer to the right of the sink and we had pull-out trash bins to the right of the sink as well. We also incorporated a custom table at the end of the island, which was basically a marble slab that could seat up to five people,” she explains.Adding to the look are Thomas O’Brien Hicks Bronze pendant lights with antique brass as well as IKEA’s cabinet lighting system — and plenty of natural lighting too.

There aren't too many people that like having all of their small appliances sitting out, and this homeowner was no different. We adding this custom pullout unit to allow for their standard mixer to be hidden away from sight, but still easily accessible!

The expansive kitchen island is stained in an Aged Oak finish, reminiscent of Restoration Hardware, and is large enough to seat up to five people.

This North Raleigh kitchen renovation was a full redesign of an existing kitchen space. The kitchen needed a more functional layout. It wanted a new look that would capture the lifestyle of the family and provide a more efficient space for cooking, entertaining and as the heart of the house, serve as a space that could be used throughout the day. The exterior shell remained unchanged, however, new windows and full lite glass doors were inserted. The full kitchen space was demolitioned, which allowed for a new kitchen layout to be explored. Cabinets flank the north and south walls. New full height storage cabinets with built-in oven and microwave were placed on the south wall and an appliance nook bookends the north wall. The existing range is relocated on the north wall surrounded by new casement windows and ceramic tile to allow for more uniform natural reflective light to enter the space. A large casement window opens as a pass thru for the existing deck on the south.
A new island became the feature of this space, with a stainless-steel farm sink inserted, this new island is placed along the east/west axis to allow for open efficient movement through the space. The island is designed to accommodate meals and entertaining. It will comfortably seat seven people with additional space to meet the needs of upwards of ten seated. A coffered ceiling connects both the ceiling to the details of the grid tile pattern throughout the space and centralizes the island as a focal point. This space is a design that accommodates friends and family. It brightens the space and allows the kitchen to feel more open and engulfed in natural light.

The Yin-Yang House is a net-zero energy single-family home in a quiet Venice, CA neighborhood. The design objective was to create a space for a large and growing family with several children, which would create a calm, relaxed and organized environment that emphasizes public family space. The home also serves as a place to entertain, and a welcoming space for teenagers as they seek social space with friends.
The home is organized around a series of courtyards and other outdoor spaces that integrate with the interior of the house. Facing the street the house appears to be solid. However, behind the steel entry door is a courtyard, which reveals the indoor-outdoor nature of the house behind the solid exterior. From the entry courtyard, the entire space to the rear garden wall can be seen; the first clue of the home’s spatial connection between inside and out. These spaces are designed for entertainment, and the 40 foot sliding glass door to the living room enhances the harmonic relationship of the main room, allowing the owners to host many guests without the feeling of being overburdened.
The tensions of the house’s exterior are subtly underscored by a 12-inch steel band that hews close to, but sometimes rises above or falls below the floor line of the second floor – a continuous loop moving inside and out like a pen that is never lifted from the page, but reinforces the intent to spatially weave together the indoors with the outside as a single space.
Scale manipulation also plays a formal role in the design of the structure. From the rear, the house appears to be a single-story volume. The large master bedroom window and the outdoor steps are scaled to support this illusion. It is only when the steps are animated with people that one realizes the true scale of the house is two stories.
The kitchen is the heart of the house, with an open working area that allows the owner, an accomplished chef, to converse with friends while cooking. Bedrooms are intentionally designed to be very small and simple; allowing for larger public spaces, emphasizing the family over individual domains. The breakfast room looks across an outdoor courtyard to the guest room/kids playroom, establishing a visual connection while defining the separation of uses. The children can play outdoors while under adult supervision from the dining area or the office, or do homework in the office while adults occupy the adjacent outdoor or indoor space.
Many of the materials used, including the bamboo interior, composite stone and tile countertops and bathroom finishes are recycled, and reinforce the environmental DNA of the house, which also has a green roof. Blown-in cellulose insulation, radiant heating and a host of other sustainable features aids in the performance of the building’s heating and cooling.
The active systems in the home include a 12 KW solar photovoltaic panel system, the largest such residential system available on the market. The solar panels also provide shade from the sun, preventing the house from becoming overheated. The owners have been in the home for over nine months and have yet to receive a power bill.

Whomever cooks in this home will love the phenomenal Kitchen fit for any chef. It is open to the Hearth Room and Dinette making this the true “heart” of the house since most of your time will be spent here. The kitchen features granite countertops, an expansive breakfast bar that can seat up to 10 people, rich cherry cabinetry with under and above cabinet lighting, glass upper cabinets, slide-out drawers, tile backsplash, nearby pantry, a granite wet bar (with upper & lower cabinets for additional storage) and display unit that’s close to the Hearth Room, and a fabulous stainless steel appliance package including a SubZero, Thermador 6-burner range with stainless backsplash, GE Monogram hood, KitchenAid dishwasher, and Sharp carousel microwave.

Pressure cookers at http://www.cosori.com/ are just an intense version of your saucepan. Their history extends back to the late 1600s, any time a French physicist created way to use internal steam pressure to speed up water’s boiling point, ultimately causing foods being cooked more rapidly.
Pressure canning evolved from this early discovery, and packed food in sealed jars, then cooked all of them boiling water. As the method became widely used, larger “jars” were meant to accommodate both home and industrial cooking, for places like hotels and restaurants.
The warm and wet, steamy environment of a pressure cooker produces precisely the same effects that long, slow braising would. Simon Hulstone uses that you cook duck legs in a half-hour while Alyn Williams cooks oxtail with reduced dark wine, beef stock and vegetables within this Beef and asparagus recipe for flavourful, flaky meat in a mere 40 minutes.Pressure cookers aren't just used for meat though; some recipes use pressure cookers for beans, risottos, poaching fruit or steaming puddings.
Pressure cookers also come in a array of sizes, based on the number of people you might be wanting to feed, though keep in mind that you should only fill a pressure cooker 2 / 3 full for safety reasons. Most pressure cookers consist of at least 2 different pressure settings but electric varieties have numerous heating and timing systems, ideal for multi-stage cooking.
The durability of the pressure cooker comes down towards the material it can be made of. Thick bases and metal are all signs of your good, long-lasting cooker that will aid you well over the years.

Once the endless winter has finally subsided, it is time to start thinking about your spring tree care! Once the last of the snow and ice has finally melted away, your trees and garden will be released once again. It is finally time to prepare for your spring tree care. If you want to maximize your tree’s new growth, you are going to want to follow Five Star Tree Services spring checklist! You can also start planning for new trees as well. We are going to give you all the information you need to know in order to properly take care of your trees this spring.
Inspect Your Trees
When all the ice and snow has left your trees, this is a good time to inspect for any damage done from the harsh winter. There aren’t any leaves that will get in your way, making it easier to see anything amiss, like damage or diseases. If you hire an arborist to do this initial spring inspection, you can guarantee that they will analyze every tree on your property very carefully to make sure they can provide you with the most accurate report. This report will make you aware of any and all tree problems on your property. The arborist will also go over all possible ways that you can fix these problems and explain them to you.
Preemptive Pruning
In order to properly prepare your trees for their spring growth, you will need to prune them. A trained arborist will be able to identify dead branches and cut them off. They will also deal with damaged branches, weak branches, and any unsafe branches and make sure they remove them before they become a problem or hazard. We recommend that you prune or hire an arborist to prune your trees in the early spring. If you wait and prune your trees after their spring growth, they are more likely to be attacked by pests and diseases. When done properly, your spring pruning is going to have a major positive impact on the overall health of your trees.
Cleanup the Gardens
Part of your spring cleaning is not limited to your home. You also need to clean your gardens too! This is an important part of your checklist routine. When all the snow and ice melt away and exposes your gardens and lawn once again, it is important to clean up your yard from any and all fallen leaves, branches, and anything else that isn’t supposed to be there. Once you do this, the sunlight will be able to get to the ground and will aid in penetrating and warming up the ground faster below the surface. Developing tree roots will have a positive effect from the sunlight. Which results in better tree growth in the spring.
Fertilization of Your Trees
After the winter has subsided, it usually takes most of the nutrients out of the soil. Which is why you should be taking advantage of fertilizing your trees in the spring. It is important to feed your trees in order to provide them with the adequate nutrients they need in order for them to be healthy and grow during the spring. When trees are properly fertilized, this helps them fight off diseases and pests.
Add Some Mulch
There are many marvelous benefits to mulching in the spring. This improves the soil quality that’s around your tree. It also helps to keep the soil fertilized and moist. Mulch is also a fantastic way to prohibit weeds from developing and growing in your gardens. This is very important for newly planted and young trees. We recommend that you add 2-4 inches of mulch around each tree in the early spring.
Plant Some New Trees!
There are many reasons why people plant trees. One major reason is to combat deforestation and provide more oxygen. If you are looking for other reasons to plant some trees, consider planting shade trees. These trees allow you to take shelter under them in the summer from the glaring sun. But did you know that they can also benefit you by maximizing your energy savings during the winter? Making it so that you can actually increase the overall value of your home when you plant new trees.
