Let's not forget the "toys"! A full suite of Thermador appliances is what the chef in this kitchen will enjoy! Easy to live with Silestone counters mean worry-free meal prep and "state of the art" Hide-A-Hose central vac system makes clean up a breeze!

The walls of the living room were painted in a pale and cool cornflower blue to contrast the warmth of the brown painted foyer, and compliment to tawny coloration of the Stark area rug, which provides an energetic dose of pattern, much like tile, into an otherwise quietly elegant space. The intention was to create a welcoming space that is elegant, ethereal and highly personal. The sofa is custom is a Cristopher Wothland custom design. The arm chairs in the foreground are Belgian, c. 1940. The pair of waterfall tables in front of the sofa are veneered with honeycomb. Art by Cristopher Worthland.

A home office in a craftsman-style home, which boasts clean lines and crisp contrast between medium gray walls and fresh white furniture and décor, grounded by laminate flooring (Mannington Restoration Plank French Oak - Nutmeg) and highlighted with plenty of natural light, thanks to a large window. Slipcovered parsons chairs add softness and mirror the casual drop cloth-look curtains. A vintage window frame serves as the primary artwork in the room and matching ferns add a natural element. A white and aqua chevron rug adds a dose of color and pattern.

Even small doses of color such as these modern lamp shades lighten the feel of this ornately carved antique console.

Hand painted decorative tiles (8"x8") used throughout this bathroom and shower. Pattern is a replica of an antique Maroccan design with some personal color selected by client. Floors in Antique reclaimed terracotta tiles 6"x12" installed in a herringbone pattern.

These folding chairs are over 100 years old, they are there for display, not for extra seating :) The birdcage next to it, is an antique as well. I tried to give the home a healthy dose of antiques while still keeping the style current.

This 400 s.f. studio apartment in NYC’s Greenwich Village serves as a pied-a-terre for clients whose primary residence is on the West Coast. Although the clients do not reside here full-time, this tiny space accommodates all the creature comforts of home. Bleached hardwood floors, crisp white walls, and high ceilings are the backdrop to a custom blackened steel and glass partition, layered with raw silk sheer draperies, to create a private sleeping area, replete with custom built-in closets. Simple headboard and crisp linens are balanced with a lightly-metallic glazed duvet and a vintage textile pillow. The living space boasts a custom Belgian linen sectional sofa that pulls out into a full-size bed for the couple’s young children who sometimes accompany them. Efficient and inexpensive dining furniture sits comfortably in the main living space and lends clean, Scandinavian functionality for sharing meals. The sculptural handcrafted metal ceiling mobile offsets the architecture’s clean lines, defining the space while accentuating the tall ceilings. The kitchenette combines custom cool grey lacquered cabinets with brass fittings, white beveled subway tile, and a warm brushed brass backsplash; an antique Boucherouite runner and textural woven stools that pull up to the kitchen’s coffee counter punctuate the clean palette with warmth and the human scale. The under-counter freezer and refrigerator, along with the 18” dishwasher, are all panelled to match the cabinets, and open shelving to the ceiling maximizes the feeling of the space’s volume. The entry closet doubles as home for a combination washer/dryer unit. The custom bathroom vanity, with open brass legs sitting against floor-to-ceiling marble subway tile, boasts a honed gray marble countertop, with an undermount sink offset to maximize precious counter space and highlight a pendant light. A tall narrow cabinet combines closed and open storage, and a recessed mirrored medicine cabinet conceals additional necessaries. The stand-up shower is kept minimal, with simple white beveled subway tile and frameless glass doors, and is large enough to host a teak and stainless bench for comfort; black sink and bath fittings ground the otherwise light palette. What had been a generic studio apartment became a rich landscape for living.

Originally the owner had tried various tones of grey on the wall before calling us in for help. One of her favorite hotel rooms in her business travel had been painted grey. However, this room faced only north light, never got sun, and I assured her that she would be taking massive doses of antidepressant in no time. We had to create some joy in the room not provided by sunlight. In the floor plan, our concept included a wall unit to house a tv as well as extra drawers for clothing. This antique French armoire was found at an auction; it came apart into about 20 pieces, and so was easily carried up her narrow stairwell to reconfigure in her bedroom. We custom painted it in an ivory tone. The windows faced onto a school yard, and needed to be able to completely extend for privacy. Drapery would have been too heavy for this small townhouse bedroom. The matelasse cover on the bed is an ivory tone and texture similar to the armoire.
