Getting from the driveway to the backyard can be a designers after thought or inconvenience, but Gappsi takes all the little details to create a one of a kind design from start to finish including walkways and paths. The Team at Gappsi melded together the walkway to the back patio to the driveway at this estate in Glen Cove, New York 11542. Using the existing height of the Belgium block border of the driveway we had a set height on which to begin our walkway. Providing a four inch lift the grey Belgium block matched with a two inch thick grey natural limestone step tread gave us the perfect six inches we needed for a step. Using our french pattern Melfi limestone as the field brings the look of a Traditional home to the foreground. Installed is an estate fence that is flanked by two six foot columns with lights to feature the gate. Gappsi landscape designers came in and kept with the traditional theme and used low lying boxwood's and creeping junipers to highlight and accentuate the surrounding area of the walkway. A small flowering tree adds height and a pond less water feature can be seen off to the right side for color and ambiance. Notice the meticulous planting of the sky rocket arborvitaes along the fence line to mask the appearance of an actual fence. These small thoughtful and executed details brings what would normally be a basic walkway to get from point A to B into an opulent path that envelopes warmth, beauty, and soul. For our Updated Spec Home, we reused furniture from a previous home which included a twin daybed, a vanity and stool, and my Nana’s wedding chest. However, we updated it by popping a blue accent color in the artwork, fabrics and accessories. We used that blue to selected fabric for the daybed pillows, cushions for the chest and panels for the palladium window. We added blue ceramic flowers as additional wall decor. The wool rug has various shades of blues in it as well. These Marble tiles were installed at a lovely property in North Ferriby by another tile company who although has done a great job laying the floor had neglected to provide the owner with any kind of post-installation maintenance. Thus the tiles, which covered a large kitchen and hallway area, appeared dull and certainly not up to the standard that could be achieved with the right methods. Funnily enough, the tile company had told the property owner that the stone would need to be sealed, but did not offer to carry out the process themselves. After conducting their own research, the property owner contacted her local Tile Doctor to see what could be done. I came round to inspect the floor and recommended the floor was polished through a process known as burnishing, followed by the application of a sealer to provide durable protection for the stone. Burnishing involves the application of diamond encrusted pads with different levels of grit. At Tile Doctor we work with a four pad system that allows us to gradually refine the polish on suitable tiled floors, including Marble and Limestone. I started the process by applying a Coarse grit burnishing pad across the entire floor lubricated with a little water, the 17 inch pads fit a rotary floor buffing machine and so are relatively straight forward to use but do take time. Following this, I worked my way through the burnishing system, repeating the process with Medium, Fine and Very Fine grit burnishing pads to achieve a brilliant, consistent shine. The floor is given a quick rinse between pads in-order to remove the resultant slurry before starting with the next pad. The second part of the restoration was to seal the floor to protect the stone against future dirt, stains and damage, which is more common in busy areas of a house like the kitchen. I opted to seal the Marble tiles with two coats of Tile Doctor Ultra Seal. This is a premium, no-sheen sealer that leaves the Marble with a more natural looking polished appearance. As a solvent-based, penetrating sealer it gets deep into the pores of the stone to protect against stains and ingrained dirt, especially in food preparation areas. To finish off I used the very fine diamond pad just to guarantee the brilliant shine you can see in the photos. The property owners were exceptionally pleased with the results achieved and will undoubtedly be glad that their lovely Marble tiled flooring is now protected for long-term use. Tecade recommended the use of Accoya to ensure that the building would sit sympathetically within its natural surroundings, while also maintaining its structural integrity against the harsh environment. Originally Accoya was specified solely to construct the windows and the terrace. However, due to its aesthetic appeal, both the owner and the architect decided to use Accoya for all applications throughout the home including the façade, interior doors, indoor and outdoor furniture, terrace, garage door and railings. The architect specified 28mm by 150mm of Accoya for the outdoor terrace and constructed the terrace furniture using around 1 cubic meters of Accoya to build 3 tables and 36 chairs for external use.
