Clients were looking to completely update the main and second levels of their late 80's home to a more modern and open layout with a traditional/craftsman feel. Check out the re-purposed dining room converted to a comfortable seating and bar area as well as the former family room converted to a large and open dining room off the new kitchen. The master suite's floorplan was re-worked to create a large walk-in closet/laundry room combo with a beautiful ensuite bathroom including an extra-large walk-in shower. Also installed were new exterior windows and doors, new interior doors, custom shelving/lockers and updated hardware throughout. Extensive use of wood, tile, custom cabinetry, and various applications of colour created a beautiful, functional, and bright open space for their family.

For our Updated Spec Home, we reused furniture from a previous home which included a twin daybed, a vanity and stool, and my Nana’s wedding chest. However, we updated it by popping a blue accent color in the artwork, fabrics and accessories. Updated Spec Home Guest Bedroom - Robin's Nest Interiors This oversized landscape artwork was the inspiration for our new accent color. We used that blue to selected fabric for the daybed pillows, cushions for the chest and panels for the palladium window. We added blue ceramic flowers as additional wall decor. The wool rug has various shades of blues in it as well. Updated Spec Home Guest Bedroom - Robin's Nest Interiors The focal point for the Updated Spec Home Guest Bedroom is the oversized palladium window. The perfect application for this style of window is panels installed on medallions which highlight the curve. My sister was skeptical of the design because she was concerned the panel would look sloppy. Our workroom did a fabulous job of finishing the top for a very tailored look. I do so hate to tell my sister “I told you so.” This is a beautiful room that homeowner or guest would love to stay in. Enjoy!

The project is located in Chantilly, VA in the rear yard of a new home and was virtually a blank slate. The Chantilly Entertaining Terrace space is elevated off the existing grade by approximately three feet allowing direct access by the existing French doors. The space incorporates a built-in outdoor kitchen complete with gas grill, storage and a refrigerator. The grill faced in local chocolate grey stone and topped by a honed Virginia Mist locally quarried granite. The cabinetry and appliances are all low maintenance stainless steel. The terrace is large enough for everyday dining area along with a lounge space that includes a custom built-in gas fire table with the base faced in same stone as grill and the same Virginia Mist honed granite. The terrace spaces backs up to a natural wooded area so it was determined that an open railing system was important to preserve the views. So a custom hammered metal and tempered glass railing system was designed to allow view and add an elegant solution. Landscape lighting is subtly placed below the stone pier caps to provide ambient light and highlight the stone work at the same time. The unique problem was locating a granite that was dark blending with the other masonry and did not heat up and crack in full sun-exposure and would also winter well in an exterior application.
