2014 Home Tour Participant Happy empty-nesters, called upon Castle for help in remodeling their main floor for a new master suite. The whole main floor was assessed to utilize the space for minimal clutter and optimal storage. Staying true to the original era of the home, clean lines and modern touches were brought into the space. The new layout incorporates a new luxurious master bath, custom walk-in closet, master bedroom, new windows throughout, and a new front entry. The couple was eager for easy access into all spaces, including their bathroom. Pocket doors and a floor plan that incorporates function and privacy was designed. Bringing the modern flare into the bath was achieved by playing with one of the elements of design, line; 2 stacked floating vanities with custom Dakota surfaces recycled glass countertops, modern Kohler plumbing fixtures, gorgeous tile that runs long with the room, and a custom tile niche wraps two full walls into the shower. Innovative details were selected including a Solatube with integrated light/bath fan, teak flip up/down shower bench, Kohler hydrorail showering column, as well as a schluter linear drain. The success of this project began with engaging our firm First, it was all about the trees. Every design decision, from the home's architectural layout to the placement of the swimming pool, was guided by our assessment of how to preserve and celebrate the existing mature trees. We had total control of the project design strategy, and it became the foundation of the project’s success. Over a five-year period, we meticulously managed the health and integration of these trees to ensure their survival. Their preservation allowed the architecture and landscape to merge seamlessly, giving the property its defining character.

This Denver home in Stapleton needed a partial siding replacement despite having been built about 9 years ago. The home was built with low-grade composite siding that was swelling and cracking severely. We only installed new siding on the left and rear elevations of the home leaving the rest of the siding intact. We installed James Hardie Hardie siding and trim. Then we painted a contemporary color scheme with Sherwin-Williams Duration exterior paint on the entire house to match. We will assess the damage and work with our homeowners to maximize on the siding repair and replacement. The transformation is stunning. Even for a newer community, this home’s exterior stands out among the neighborhood.

Converting a bathtub into a walk-in shower transformed the existing space that is easily assessable. Gray marble-looking tile creates a sophisticated and timeless look. The shower features a gray marble shower floor mosaic, shower niche, and frameless shower door. The white high gloss floating vanity creates the illusion of space and a clean, minimalistic aesthetic. The gray engineered quartz countertop complements the overall bathroom design.

The bathroom was redone with a new ceramic tile surround, and new tub, all with complete new hardware. {Featured Story} Spring, 2015 – This condo was purchased from the estate of the new owner’s parents and refurbished with trendy new touches. There were no close comparables in the Farmington neighborhood with within walking distance to the urban downtown area, so the approach for selling was to create an entirely new set of comparables when the new owner was found. On the market for just days, the renovation, marketing and finishing touches made this a highly sought after, and quick to sell property at top dollar, establishing a new trend in the neighborhood. {Our Process for this Featured Property}: Assessed the initial investment condo, offered suggestions for rehab and renovation. Assisted with Color Theory through color selection and process (no beige in this condo!). Helped select floor and counter materials, tile selection and features in the kitchen and bath. Final staging of the property was done with antiques and housewares, and created a cozy and lived in feel. As a final touch, a party was thrown when the property was completed to invite in friends and family, as well as an open house with freshly baking chocolate chip cookies to make the prospective buyers feel right at home! {Outcome} This property sold in days as a cash sale, at a higher price than anything in the neighborhood – and closed quickly. Both the seller and buyer were thrilled with this transaction!

Our client approached us while he was in the process of purchasing his ½ lot detached unit in Hermosa Beach. He was drawn to a design / build approach because although he has great design taste, as a busy professional he didn’t have the time or energy to manage every detail involved in a home remodel. The property had been used as a rental unit and was in need of TLC. By bringing us onto the project during the purchase we were able to help assess the true condition of the home. Built in 1976, the 894 sq. ft. home had extensive termite and dry rot damage from years of neglect. The project required us to reframe the home from the inside out. To design a space that your client will love you really need to spend time getting to know them. Our client enjoys entertaining small groups. He has a custom turntable and considers himself a mixologist. We opened up the space, space-planning for his custom turntable, to make it ideal for entertaining. The wood floor is reclaimed wood from manufacturing facilities. The reframing work also allowed us to make the roof a deck with an ocean view. The home is now a blend of the latest design trends and vintage elements and our client couldn’t be happier! We created this furniture package by assessing the contemporary architecture of the building and the interior finishes of the unit.
