design: Studio TOOP, 2009 location: Amersfoort, NL status: built in 2009, Tuinvreugd photo: Jolanthe Lalkens, 2010 A family friendly garden that, doesn't look like, well, a family garden. That was the assignment. Clean lines, a modern feel, not too much work, enough space for the kids to play and, oh yeah, a cage for the rabbit all in a space less than 50 m2. The new extension on the back of the house, catty cornered slightly with the original facade and the garden boundaries brought it's own challenges. This diagonal was used to make extra space for different functions but "straightened" in the experience of the inner square. Inside the aluminum pergola (coated in the same gray - ral 7016 - as the woodwork on the extension) house various functions: the rabbit cage, a water and sand table, the swing (steel rod in the aluminum for extra support) and a table where the kids can draw or play table football.

My clients wanted a happy beach feel to lounge with guests. Our color scheme was blue, green and cream. We had the ceiling painted green, and the wood work painted a light cream color. We added the geometric blue area rug to anchor the space. We purchased various nautical pillows and throws to add a pop of color. We added an oversized ceiling fan as well as repainted the old oak TV chest a distressed sour apple color. The clients sit out there almost every night now!

Alex von Svoboda was born in Austria in 1929 and studied art in Paris, Rome and Vienna. After WWII Alex emigrated to Canada and resumed his work. Between 1957 and 1958 Alex entered into a partnership with artist York Wilson who had received an assignment to produce five 20' by 5' mosaic panels to illustrate the theme 'Communications' for Bell Canada. The 'Communications' mosaics incorporated symbols similar to the Lascaux cave drawings. During the following year in 1959 Alex created this masterpiece. The painting consists of 5 panels, each of which is 42" x 79". Allowing for a 1.5" gap between each panel, the complete work is 18 feet wide, and 6.5 feet high. RevoluSun Smart Home Builders, a division of RevoluSun Smart Home built our new showroom and office space at SALT @ Our Kaka'ako in 2018. Our Vision was to create a place for homeowners and building professionals alike to come see and interact with the products they may be interested in. We worked with Local Design firm BLKCoral to help use create a space that reflected our core offerings in a unique way that allows visitors to visually understand each area of the home we specialize in. The build out was done in 3 months and the roughly 80% of the materials used were recycled from our previous office. From Solar Energy and Battery Storage, Building products, Air conditioning, Natural lighting and water. This is done by a unique display of textures, patterns and colors assigned to each offering. The end result is a beautiful, welcoming showroom/design center that our clients and team members love.

Although compact in size, working in this kitchen is surprisingly efficient! And there is a ton of storage packed into it! These toe kick drawers, one for cookie sheets and the other for a step stool, are a prime example of using every inch of space!

The building's standard finishes were all in place when our client closed on the 2,000 sq. ft., two bedroom condo, then handed us the key and departed for another continent on a year‐long business assignment. With his approval, we established a warm, rich, brown and copper‐toned color palette to compliment what already existed. And it suited the owner’s Trump Tower lifestyle. THEME The main theme for this room is an active, physical and personalized experience for a growing boy. This was achieved with the use of bold colors, creative inclusion of personal favorites and the use of industrial materials. FOCUS The main focus of the room is the 12 foot long x 4 foot high elevated bed. The bed is the focal point of the room and leaves ample space for activity within the room beneath. A secondary focus of the room is the desk, positioned in a private corner of the room outfitted with custom lighting and suspended desktop designed to support growing technical needs and school assignments. STORAGE A large floor armoire was built at the far die of the room between the bed and wall.. The armoire was built with 8 separate storage units that are approximately 12”x24” by 8” deep. These enclosed storage spaces are convenient for anything a growing boy may need to put away and convenient enough to make cleaning up easy for him. The floor is built to support the chair and desk built into the far corner of the room. GROWTH The room was designed for active ages 8 to 18. There are three ways to enter the bed, climb the knotted rope, custom rock wall, or pipe monkey bars up the wall and along the ceiling. The ladder was included only for parents. While these are the intended ways to enter the bed, they are also a convenient safety system to prevent younger siblings from getting into his private things. SAFETY This room was designed for an older child but safety is still a critical element and every detail in the room was reviewed for safety. The raised bed includes extra long and higher side boards ensuring that any rolling in bed is kept safe. The decking was sanded and edges cleaned to prevent any potential splintering. Power outlets are covered using exterior industrial outlets for the switches and plugs, which also looks really cool.

Room Redefined supported the organization of a closet designed and installed by The Container Store in a new-build in the Observatory Park neighborhood. Decluttering, sorting, purging, selling of unwanted items, organizing and assigning homes of all items were key parts of our process to producing this easily accessible and maintainable master closet space. Working with a professional organizer for your home organization projects allows you to focus on what you do best, while knowing your projects will be taken care of and your stress relieved! While we worked with Elfa Decor for this project, we can work with any closet design products to help you meet your goals.

These homeowners absolutely hated their kitchen. Though it was a relatively new build, between the color, crooked cabinets, a low hanging cabinet for a build in microwave, and the overall flow and functionality they were on the hunt for a designer/contractor combo that would help them design AND build the perfect kitchen. She took her homework assignment as a personal mission to measure and account for every item that needed a spot, including her cherished Disney coffee mugs! Her sister drew up their idea for the pantry door to integrate it in with the cabinetry. And due to odd angles of that pantry, we took the homeowners idea from a picture she saw and created the open shelf with Alder wood shelving with built in lighting! There are so many more details that we specially designed them, and it was claimed that we "hit it out of the ballpark"! Now they have a showstopper of a kitchen in their little community!
