Restructure Studio's Brookhaven Remodel updated the entrance and completely reconfigured the living, dining and kitchen areas, expanding the laundry room and adding a new powder bath. Guests now enter the home into the newly-assigned living space, while an open kitchen occupies the center of the home.

My client wanted bold colors and a room that fueled her children’s creativity. We transformed the old storage space underneath the staircase into a playhouse by simply adding a door and tiny windows. On one side of the staircase I added a blackboard and on the other side the wall was covered in a laminate wood flooring to add texture completing the look of the playhouse. A custom designed writing desk with seating to accommodate both children for their art and homework assignments. The entire area is designed for playing, imagining and creating. CAD Rendering for this incredibly stylish apartment interior was an exciting project for us. Potential of the design was obvious – we knew from the first glance at the technical assignment that whoever the clients are – they are extremely lucky.

Our goal was to create a concept for the client using an assigned space that would resemble a mountain stream. From concept to completion, the entire project was designed and installed by us. Our expectations were high for finishing on time and for the overall aesthetic value of the area. The client also demands quality and for construction that is completed on-time. The end result was a walk-up pond complete with waterfall and natural landscaping using local rock, boulders and native plants, useable kayaks, and water filled with colorful koi. From any angle, both large and small bits of a natural water feature and surrounding rock and plants were viewable. She took her homework assignment as a personal mission to measure and account for every item that needed a spot, including her cherished Disney coffee mugs! Her sister drew up their idea for the pantry door to integrate it in with the cabinetry. And due to odd angles of that pantry, we took the homeowners idea from a picture she saw and created the open shelf with Alder wood shelving with built in lighting! There are so many more details that we specially designed them, and it was claimed that we "hit it out of the ballpark"! Now they have a showstopper of a kitchen in their little community!

Banquet constructed of solid black walnut, matte oiled finish. 3 storage drawers (full depth) push to open and magnetically latch to shut. Same dor the bilateral side tables that we snuck into the design as a surprise feature for our customers. In this tiny south end condo (topping out at 465 sq ft!) all details had to be carefully considered and every nook and cranny not only assigned a single function - but many! Stay tuned for kitchen, sliding pivot door panel wall & illuminated wall bed that converts to a pull out couch, standard sofa with coffee table, or an office desk with upper shelves. Pretty cool!

The garden is deliberately contemporary in its style to emphasize that nature-rich gardens need not look a certain way - insects and birds don't care if the lines are straight or curved. At the same time the garden makes use of affordable, simple, no-nonsense materials. The 40x60 cm paving stones are one of the most common and affordable paving options in the Netherlands, available en masse for free on the Internet. Conceptually we imagined a garden completely paved with the tiles (as to many gardens are) and what would happen if took out some of these stones, used them to build benches and structure and added plants where the tiles had been. In the construction of the benches we include other materials such as bamboo sticks and insulation bricks that create habitat for insects such as solitary bees. The plant palette is based on a selection of native and host plants in combination with the 26 plants plan set up by Groei & Boei -- a list of plants aimed at making the use of more plants in gardens accessible and less intimidating. The choice for the number 26 corresponds with the number of letters in the alphabet in line with the famous Dutch garden designer Mien Ruy's comment that if we only need 26 letters to create a whole language, we should be able to combine and mix 26 plants to express far more than we think.

Our assignment for this project was to change the exterior face of this already existing private residence by changing its shape and adding new volumes to it and also to propose new minimal interior design suggestions to the owner. The residence is located on the country road between Ierapetra and Agios Nikolaos. At the ground floor of the residence we have attached a two-floor structure that is being separated through the use of an expansion joint. Simultaneously, the whole building is being reconstructed so as to form clear volumes and levels. The main idea is the design of a raised from the ground volume to give the impression that the building is floating. The master and child’s bedroom have their own private bathrooms. Mirrors in the master bedroom give the impression of a larger area and warm colors are appropriate for the child’s bedroom.

That was the assignment. Clean lines, a modern feel, not too much work, enough space for the kids to play and, oh yeah, a cage for the rabbit all in a space less than 50 m2. The new extension on the back of the house, catty cornered slightly with the original facade and the garden boundaries brought it's own challenges. This diagonal was used to make extra space for different functions but "straightened" in the experience of the inner square. Inside the aluminum pergola (coated in the same gray - ral 7016 - as the woodwork on the extension) house various functions: the rabbit cage, a water and sand table, the swing (steel rod in the aluminum for extra support) and a table where the kids can draw or play table football.
