The new Wolfe and Sub Zero appliances captured the clients’ dreams about redoing this space and they love their new kitchen! The owners of this attractive Johnson County home wanted an update to their kitchen. Their 17-year-old kitchen appliances needed replacing, so they decided to change out all the pale wood cabinets and start anew to accommodate the fresh sizes and styles. Arlene Ladegaard and the Design Connection, Inc. team assisted with the revitalization of the kitchen, creating a stunning new space through professional space planning, elevations and selections of modern materials, colors, and designs. The inset cabinet style produced a seamless look with the appliances hidden behind beautiful cabinet faces. The spiral brushed nickel pendants over the contrasting wood island topped off the look. Design Connection, Inc. provided; Kitchen design and layouts, tile, countertops, painting, appliance selection, cabinets, electrical, lighting and bar stools, project management, and installation of all materials to keep the integrity of the Design Connection, Inc. high standards.

Faced with an outdated original kitchen with cabinets she was not crazy about, Ann knew she wanted to update the space. “Originally I was going to paint the existing oak cabinets, tweak them a little bit, replace a couple and try to create more cabinetry where a desk was [situated],” she says. However, it was at this point her handyman recommended using IKEA cabinetry instead, which she quickly began to research at her local IKEA – even starting a quick mock up on the IKEA Home Planner software. “I could see that an IKEA kitchen was definitely in the budget. Naturally, it was more than just painting and reconfiguring a few things in the existing cabinets, but it was so worth it!” she says. Although Ann knew how she wanted her IKEA kitchen to look, she also knew she needed professional design assistance. She explains: “I had created a design online with IKEA’s 3-D kitchen planner. However I wanted a professional to look over the design and complete or fill in the layout with the most efficient use of cabinets and drawers.” Enter IKD’s design team. IKD guided her as to where to put pullouts to place shelves and where cupboards would make more sense than drawers. This made her IKEA kitchen much more ergonomic and functional. “I trusted these professionals to know and design for basic storage needs and to add details I would not have thought about,” she says. Once the layout with IKEA LEHRYTTAN stained black cabinetry was established, Ann also hired MC Wood Works in Chino, CA to install her cabinetry. “The owner and installer, Michael, does nothing but install IKEA and has been doing it for 20 years. He was far less expensive than other installers and estimated a day to a day and a half versus almost five days that was quoted to us from other installers. He was fantastic,” she says.

Kaylee is currently transitioning out of her crib and we have big intentions for this princess-loving little girl. Our plan is to combine fun and functionality with details and personal touches that will show Kaylee that there is an entire community rallying behind her. We will incorporate Kaylee's favorite colors (pink and purple) and turn her fantasies into reality by installing a built-in castle bed that makes her room feel magical and shows this little girl that anything is possible. This room will have some very personal special touches incorporated into it to pay tribute to Kaylee's fairy godmother. When Kelly was 13, she lost her very best friend, Jessica, to cancer. Kelly paid tribute to her dear friend by naming her daughter Kaylee Jessica and she wholeheartedly believes that Jessica will be watching over her little girl as she travels this difficult road. With sufficient funding, we will also be able to do a little makeover for Kaylee's knight in shining armor, her big brother Drew. These homeowners are well known to our team as repeat clients and asked us to convert a dated deck overlooking their pool and the lake into an indoor/outdoor living space. A new footer foundation with tile floor was added to withstand the Indiana climate and to create an elegant aesthetic. The existing transom windows were raised and a collapsible glass wall with retractable screens was added to truly bring the outdoor space inside. Overhead heaters and ceiling fans now assist with climate control and a custom TV cabinet was built and installed utilizing motorized retractable hardware to hide the TV when not in use. As the exterior project was concluding we additionally removed 2 interior walls and french doors to a room to be converted to a game room. We removed a storage space under the stairs leading to the upper floor and installed contemporary stair tread and cable handrail for an updated modern look. The first floor living space is now open and entertainer friendly with uninterrupted flow from inside to outside and is simply stunning.

I designed and assisted the homeowners with the materials, and finish choices for this project while working at Corvallis Custom Kitchens and Baths. Our client (and my former professor at OSU) wanted to have her basement finished. CCKB had competed a basement guest suite a few years prior and now it was time to finish the remaining space. She wanted an organized area with lots of storage for her fabrics and sewing supplies, as well as a large area to set up a table for cutting fabric and laying out patterns. The basement also needed to house all of their camping and seasonal gear, as well as a workshop area for her husband. The basement needed to have flooring that was not going to be damaged during the winters when the basement can become moist from rainfall. Out clients chose to have the cement floor painted with an epoxy material that would be easy to clean and impervious to water. An update to the laundry area included replacing the window and re-routing the piping. Additional shelving was added for more storage. Finally a walk-in closet was created to house our homeowners incredible vintage clothing collection away from any moisture. LED lighting was installed in the ceiling and used for the scones. Our drywall team did an amazing job boxing in and finishing the ceiling which had numerous obstacles hanging from it and kept the ceiling to a height that was comfortable for all who come into the basement. Our client is thrilled with the final project and has been enjoying her new sewing area.

This Bellevue landscape renovation is just finishing up this week. Penn Bluestone walks were installed with granite boulder accents and paver patios built in Belgard 'Lafitt rustic slab' Toscana color - with an adjacent 'Tandem' modular seatwall. Pots, extensive plantings and a beefy Columbia basalt column water feature round out the effort. Really great clients that will be missed. Inspiration for a large craftsman brown three-story concrete fiberboard exterior home remodel in Milwaukee

This Verona, NJ bath was updated with a light color scheme and an elegant blend of coordinating stone mosaics. With the assistance of our Paramus showroom team, Interior Designer Tracey Stephens selected 'Whirlwind,' our swirling traditional mosaic, as a graceful floor with the appearance of subtle motion. For the shower panel, she specified 'Arpell' in Azul Cielo mixed with Rivershell, creating a striking centerpiece, and to tie it all together, she used accents of Azul Cielo in a straight joint mosaic for borders, backsplashes and niches throughout the space.

We hardly wasted an inch creating a spacious interior for this dormered and gabled country cottage that lives much bigger than it looks. Front bedroom, master bedroom, and open great room/kitchen gain vertical space from cathedral ceilings while the open foyer pulls the dining room and great room together visually. Wraparound front porch, breakfast bay window, and skylit back porch add charm and expand living. The master bath pampers with whirlpool tub, separate shower and double lavs. A bonus room adds flexibility to the plan.

But that was exactly the story for Cantoni designer Richard Bustos and his clients, Karen and Mike Moran. The couple, who had purchased and were in the midst of gutting a home on the water in Newport Beach, California, knew what they wanted. Combined with Richard’s design assistance, it was a match made for swift decision-making and the resulting beautifully neutral, modern space. “We went into Cantoni in Irvine and fell in love with it—it was everything we liked,” Karen says. “Richard had the same vision we did, and we told him what we wanted, and he would direct us. He was on the same level.” Even more surprising: they selected the furnishings before the home’s bones were even complete. They had wanted a more contemporary vibe to capitalize on the expansive bay views and were in the midst of ripping out low ceilings and outdated spaces. “We wanted modern warmth,” Karen says. “Cantoni furniture was the perfect fit.” After their initial meeting, Richard met with the couple several times to take measurements and ensure pieces would fit. And they did—with elegant cohesion. In the living room, they leaned heavily on the Fashion Affair collection by Malerba, which is exclusive to Cantoni in the U.S. He flanked the Fashion Affair sofa in ivory leather with the Fashion Affair club chairs in taupe leather and the ivory Viera area rug to create a sumptuous textural mix. In the center, he placed the brown-glossed Fashion Affair low cocktail table and Fashion Affair occasional table for ease of entertaining and conversation. A punch of glamour came by way of a set of Ravi table lamps in gold-glazed porcelain set on special-ordered Fashion Affair side tables. The Harmony floor sculpture in black stone and capiz shell was brought in for added interest. “Because of the grand scale of the living room—with high ceilings and numerous windows overlooking the water—the pieces in the space had to have more substance,” Richard says. “They are heavier-scaled than traditional modern furnishings, and in neutral tones to allow the architectural elements, such as a glass staircase and elevator, to be the main focal point.” The trio settled on the Fashion Affair extension table in brown gloss with a bronze metal arc base in the formal dining area, and flanked it with eight Arcadia high-back chairs. “We like to have Sunday dinners with our large family, and now we finally have a big dining-room table,” Karen says. The master bedroom also affords bay views, and they again leaned heavily on neutral tones with the M Place California-king bed with chrome accents, the M Place nightstand with M Place table lamps, the M Place bench, Natuzzi’s Anteprima chair and a Scoop accent table. “They were fun, happy, cool people to work with,” Richard says. One of the couple’s favorite spaces—the family room—features a remote-controlled, drop-down projection screen. For comfortable viewing, Richard paired the Milano sectional (with a power recliner) with the Sushi round cocktail table, the Lambrea accent table, and a Ravi table lamp in a gold metallic snakeskin pattern. “Richard was wonderful, was on top of it, and was a great asset to our team,” Karen says. Mike agrees. “Richard was a dedicated professional,” he says. “He spent hours walking us through Cantoni making suggestions, measuring, and offering advice on what would and wouldn’t work. Cantoni furniture was a natural fit.”
