Then, taking into consideration how the stone on the driveway, walkway, patio and fireplace would work with one another, the homeowner allowed our experts to pick and choose the materials that would complement the home and best accentuate its features. Customizing the Materials In order to achieve this goal, Braen Supply created custom 3” driveway cobbles, which have become so popular that they are now in stock in our Wanaque location.

I was hired by my previous employer, Corvallis Custom Kitchens and Baths to assist these homeowners with all of the materials, fixtures and finish choices to complete this master bathroom remodel. Brian Egan, owner and designer at CCKB in Sept 2017, since retired), designed this aging-in-place, accessible shower (previously a shower and separate soaker tub) for the clients who reside in an over 55 community here in Corvallis. Large format 12x24 unpolished Crossville Kosmos Moonstruck tile was chosen for the bathroom floor and the shower walls to minimize grout lines. For the shower floor/pan small 1x1 DalTile Keystones Marble color tile was used to aid in making the floor feel extra slip resistant as the Keystones tiles do not have grittier feeling surface than porcelain tile. For safety and a non-industrial look, Moen Align chrome designer grab bars were installed in the shower and toilet room. The handshower and rainshower head system by Grohe beautifully combines the 2 systems in one unit called Retrofit 160. To allow the homeowners to turn the shower on and warm up without them having to step in the direct spray of the shower head, the controls were placed under the window near the shower entry. This would also allow a helper to assist anyone using the shower in the future should the need arise. A linear drain was installed to pull water away from the zero threshold shower entry. Installing a linear shower drain allows for a no threshold shower which can allow for the shower to be accessible with a walker or roll-in with a wheelchair as the shower was designed almost 40" wide. The homeowners were thrilled with the transformation of their bathroom. The design and material choices fit their tastes and needs perfectly. Paula Truchon of Reico Kitchen and Bath in Frederick, MD designed a primary bathroom featuring Merillat Classic Cabinetry’s Rowan 5-piece drawer front in Maple with a Painted Cotton finish. Selections for bathroom include Silestone Quartz in an Ocean Jasper finish vanity countertops, bench curb pony wall and pony wet wall. The bathroom also features a custom shower enclosure, Kohler and Moen fixtures & accessories, and Jeffery Alexander hardware. The shower features Eterna 12x24 Wave Deco Silver wall tile with IslandStone Marble Spindrift Honed Nebula plumbing waterfall, shower niche and shower floor tile. The bathroom flooring features Eterna 12x24 Natural Titanio tile. Installation by client’s private independent contractor. “We love the finished bathroom! Our previous bathroom had walls and seemed dark and choppy. The new bathroom is open and bright! The design makes the bathroom seem much bigger and the shower is at least twice the size of our old shower. I absolutely love the faucet for the stand-alone tub and the shower. The tile with the glass looks wonderful!” Expressing overall satisfaction with the transformed bathroom, the client said, “Paula did a wonderful job listening to what I wanted and helping us pick colors and accessories. She was integral in complimenting colors and assisting us with everything from the tile to the cabinets, all the way to the handles on the cabinets. Doing a remodel with the thought of long term should always be in mind. So when doing this project i knew i didn't want grout in the shower, then what are my options for something that looks timeless, would stand up to years of soaps, shampoo and still look great in years to come. I had seen these sheets of porcelain from Spain at a trade show a number of years ago, it seemed that for my own bath it was a good project to give them a try. These are available in different sizes and thicknesses and i am really happy with them. The cast iron bath tub with an antiqued chrome wrap is the Whitby from Penhaglion, it sits in front of the window which has an opaque small patterned film covering the once clear glass. The bath and sink faucets, come from Penhaglion, that I have to say is an amazing company to work with. Heated floors in the bath and shower area as well as a Toto toilet, all pulled together with a vintage sideboard that was refinished to suite the plumbing of the 2 drop in sinks. Air assisted rain head, wall and hand held shower with an oversize niche make for a great showering experience. Susan Brook Interiors

This has been such a fun project! The client purchased an attractive mid-century modern home in Fairfax and immediately contacted us to assist her with the design of the home. She wanted assistance creating a comfortable, contemporary, relaxing space for her, her husband and pups to enjoy. The biggest challenge we faced was the sunken living room with it's not so well built built-in benches and outdated fireplace. We quickly set out to give her the space she was dreaming of. For the sunken living room we had the benches and had new linoleum plank flooring installed (ideal for older pups). We had a custom area rug created for times when she wanted to entertain or to feel a softer under footing. We designed custom sectional benches in a soft, velvety grey fabric and added accent pillows in pops of orange, gold and blue. The fireplace received a facelift. We added a stunning stone veneer over the outdated brick. To tall accent lamps and a beautiful new chandelier add ambient and task lighting to the space. In the living room we created a comfortable and stylish entertaining area with a new sofa, two accent chairs and custom designed, custom made chaise lounge, ideal for late afternoon reading and naps by the window. A neutral foundation of grey and taupe sets of the pops of turquoise in the accent pillows and banding on the custom made draperies. New top down/bottom up woven wood shades add texture and allow for natural light and privacy at the same time. A modern acrylic ceiling fan is both functional and incredibly eye-catching. In the dining room we recycled the customers sturdy dining table, giving it new life with semi-gloss paint. New upholstered dining chairs finish off the comfortable space. A new area rug anchors and a stunning chandelier draws attention to the space. An mirrored buffet provides storage and is accented by a gorgeous new mirror, lamp and accessories. The design strategy included working within the footprint created by the home and backyard, wanting to incorporate a swimming pool “destination” within the backyard that would be large enough to fit the “larger than life” criteria, but without taking away any of the natural beauty or obstructing the view of the horse pastures, barn and nature surrounding the home. Once the design work began, and the pool area was able to incorporate one of every feature the customer could have wanted, Curtis had some steel grates from a former tilt-a-whirl carnival ride that gave him the idea of suspending a stage over the pool. The initial idea was a modest stage with some waterfall/sheer decent features. With the idea of using steel to form the framework, the stage idea grew into something much more that would include a full stage set up, lighting trusses, a “green room” and staging area. Once the stage was designed to be so large, the pool size and scope needed to match including the patio surround, area underneath the stage, and all the additional features. The home architecture is a Ranch with a full finished walkout basement adjacent to the pool area. An existing deck had to be removed to allow for the pool build and new Trex deck, as well as a 3 story tall observation tower that overlooks the pool and surrounding horse pastures. The design strategy was to work within the footprint the house and decks provided to create an extension of the home for outdoor entertaining. Since the exterior of the house was quite long (and dull, the owner equating it to a 1970’s motel), our team needed to incorporate elements to make the space feel more like a backyard resort. The goal was maintaining a cozy at home feel in a grand expanse of space. It takes a team and a unique blend of artistry to build this project. Sandi Maki, co-owner of the company is responsible for the business side of things, and marketing to reach exceptional customers who allow us to build these backyard dreams. The construction side of our company boasts a diverse, multi-geneational family business. Allan Curtis is the designer/builder and comes up with the fantastic pool plans and ideas. His team consists of his daughter Jesse Curtis, who is high right hand and manages the project just as much as Allan does. She is instrumental in everything from dig day, to tying the steel, pouring the concrete, stonework and tile work, forming the waterfall, applying ecoFinish, pouring and stamping patio, and everything in between. Allan’s nephew Mark Curtis installed and plumbed the three pool filtration systems. Allan’s wife Annie has become very good at stonework on walls and waterfalls adding the unique accents our projects have become known for. Allan’s sister-in-law, Karen Olson also does tile and stonework on the jobs and created the rockstar mural on the patio. Frank DiPiazza assists with structural elements and built the new deck, and college student Brendan Schafer assists where needed and maintains the pool and equipment during the summer on a weekly basis. As with many homeowners who reach out to Legendary Escapes, this owner, Dale Walter, knew he wanted a “custom” pool without knowing what that really meant. He was able to show Curtis the space, and his initial ideas, and then allowed Allan and his team the freedom to dream and build. The majority of Legendary Escapes customers make the decision to hire the company after the first meeting with Curtis. As long as the project and design are challenging and interesting, the customer meets the criteria of being easy to work with, and is special in their own unique way Curtis will consider taking on their project. From the beginning it is important to Curtis that the customer understands they need to allow the project to take on a life of it’s own, and for Curtis to create without interference or asking too many questions – working together becomes a reality. The design is typically presented on paper, a hand-colored, hand drawn design that outlines only the large elements, and an accompanying budget which outlines the structural elements and budgets and has a “theme” budget for items to be determined but doesn’t change once it is set. Once that contract is signed, Curtis and his team over-deliver on what the customer could only have dreamed up in their wildest imagination. Projects proceed in an organic way- not every element is planned before the project begins. As the space begins to take shape, so do the details and finishing elements. When the Rockstar project began, there was no plan for the guitars on the fences, or guitar fire features. The VIP seating area wasn’t added until mid way through the patio pours as the space began to take shape. The murals both in the grotto and on the pool floor were planned just moments before each of them was to be installed. It’s this free-flowing combination of the customers and team’s dreams, ideas, elements and the Legendary Escapes team that creates backyard pools that are as much art as they are design and engineering masterpieces.

recent kitchen remodel in Chantilly, VA completed by KBF by Audi Contractors with design assistance from Sallie Finney Kjos with Grey Hunt Interiors. As a company we work with a handful of select interior design firms to assist with large scale remolding projects. For this project, Sallie tasked us to create a more efficient kitchen so that her client’s entire family could enjoy for years to come. Our Leesburg Design Team quickly got to work by removing the inefficient walk in pantry and small pony wall next to the old fridge. We decided to move the fridge, range and microwave into spaces that were much more efficient. By removing the cooktop off the island, we were able to create a large prep island that could house 3 stools for her kids to sit and converse while cooking was happening. With Sallies guidance, the client selected products and colors that were inviting and clean. This was definitely a fun project to work on, the client is super excited. VPC partnered with the owners of Rustic Mountain Residence to help them build this mountain home of their dreams. The stunning structure was carefully crafted for full-time residency in a community tucked away in North Carolina’s High Country. Rustic Mountain Residence is a 1,999 square foot home complete with three bedrooms, two and a half baths, and a two-car garage. The home’s exterior was designed with an architectural shingle roof displaying metal accents, natural stone veneer, cypress, and nickel gap siding. The meticulous attention to detail and design is evident in the exterior, including gorgeous bark accents and stark black painted windows and soffit. Inside the residence, tongue and groove ceilings, pine hardwood flooring, canned lighting, and shadowbox trim were used on all doors and windows. Noteworthy features on the main level include a sliding barn door in the powder room and reclaimed barnwood accent walls in the dining space. The great room offers a grand and warm living space with windows peering into the expansive mountain vistas, a natural stone gas fireplace, and an open concept with a view into the kitchen.
