Building a Dream: the Creation of a Wine Cellar
A dream house is more than walls and a roof, it is a place full of things that you love. When David Rabin got the chance to build the house of his dreams, it wasn’t enough to simply use stone instead of brick or wood instead of tile. He had to fill it with people and things he loved. So, as a passionate collector of wine, he set out to build a custom wine cellar.
He had never built a wine cellar before and had his reservations. He wondered what it would take to make it beautiful, a place where he could store cases of wine as well as proudly show off special, trophy bottles.
“One of my biggest worries, though, was space,” said David. “We knew we wanted a wine cellar, and that we wanted it to be gorgeous, but we had no idea where it would be or if we even had the space for one.”
Glenview Haus had already given David his custom, wooden entry door and was ready to create a high-quality wine cellar that was customized to fit his vision. David recalls with awe how helpful the team at Glenview Haus was when approaching the project he assigned them.
“What the team at Glenview Haus did was designate space, and then worked to maximize the space for ultimate storage and efficiency,” said David. “We were nervous that the smaller space would eliminate our ability to make it beautiful. But the team at Glenview Haus was able to work with our interior designer to make it absolutely stunning.”
Wine Cellar Cooling System
By installing a state-of-the-art cooling system that automatically keeps the cellar at the ideal temperature and humidity level, Glenview Haus was able to create the ideal wine cellar environment. The team helped David choose from a variety of furniture-grade wood species, that they could handcraft so as to add all the detail that would help make David’s wine cellar uniquely designed. Glenview Haus’ team also collaborated with the interior designer to create the perfect atmosphere for David’s custom wine cellar.
Wine Cellar Craftsmanship
Glenview Haus designed a see-through glass entry system, to protect and show off the extensive collection of wine. Inside they helped create a masterpiece, from floor to ceiling. The team brought in brick veneers for the walls to complement the stained Mahogany horizontal display, and that gave the entire cellar a rustic feel. A textured, painted ceiling completed the look, contributing to the incredible, other-worldly feel. David’s artisan, custom wine cellar did exactly what he dreamed it would do and transported all visitors to a vineyard on the Italian countryside.
“The team constructed us a space to hang a landscape painting of a vineyard,” said David. “This painting, along with all of the other amazing design elements give viewers looking into the cellar the feeling that they are outside looking into something that you’d imagine would only exist in Italy.”
Glenview Haus helped David create a wine cellar that not only had ample storage but that was customized and designed to meet his ultimate vision.

This unique contemporary home was carefully sited in a large meadow overlooking a magnificent brook that is a haven for wildlife. The open floor house plan connects to a granite terrace, which overlooks a 60' gunite lap pool. Ipe deck landings connect the home to the pool terrace and create a seamless visual connection to the preservation area beyond. Classic New England materials such as natural stone and grey granite are used in a contemporary pattern to tie into the materials used on the homes exterior.

This after photo showcases this urban contemporary kitchen remodel. The client was looking for a high gloss urban contemporary look. They don't cook often, but they do entertain so we installed a Miele speed cooker below the countertop and a Miele pullout recirculating hood above the cooktop. The hood turns on automatically when pulled out. The client chose a full-size wine refrigerator as well.
The cabinets are IKEA Absrakt High Gloss Grey with IKEA Lansa hardware.
The countertops are Granite Azule Patino.
The backsplash is a beautiful 4x12 Gloss Spirit tile in Arctic White in a stacked pattern and the accent tile is Capri Blue Grotto linear glass by Precious Gemstone with a light pewter epoxy grout.
The island has full extension drawers for lots of storage space and the hardware ties into the hardware throughout the condo.

Part of an extensive home remodel, this kitchen design was born of one man’s love of all things Harley Davidson. Color inspiration came from the client’s own cherished bike which was a stunning combination of matte black and brushed steel. The client’s wish was to have a large open area in which he could “be one with his guests” when hosting large gatherings.
Cabinets, hardware and appliances all in black allow the focus to be on the beauty of the larger architectural elements as a whole. Included along the main storage wall is a hidden 42” refrigerator, dual pull-out pantries, and extra wide drawers below a pair of upper cabinets with matte black glass fold-up doors that open & close automatically via servo-drive technology.
The new island - which measures just shy of 16 ½ feet! - is a true central point around which all action revolves. Wide walkways on either side provide ease of flow for multiple sous chefs and guests alike. A textured cypress soffit above the island was designed to house the modern hood and also create a feeling of unity as it is the same size as the island below. Textured cypress wood also wraps matte black cabinetry and lines the main wall, changing grain direction to provide visual interest.
The 5’ Galley Workstation is a multi-functional marvel, easily transitioning from prep station to serving surface to clean-up with the addition of its built-in accessories. Placing an undercounter wine refrigerator on the back side of the island makes it easy for guests at the bar to help themselves. Close to the bar seating area, a 42” flat screen tv fits perfectly flush in the wall, practically disappearing when not in use.
Unique details include a large display cabinet with a metal framed front & side crafted out of steel by a local artisan. The glass is 2-way mirror so when the interior light is off, the treasure is concealed inside. The interior is painted in the trademark Harley orange.
Above a modern dining table, a one-of-a-kind chandelier was created from 3 bike helmets, painted in Harley orange by a local automobile detail shop. The interiors are finished in metallic silver for extra glow.
Adjacent to the Kitchen, and initially deceiving in its simplicity, the main tv wall was quite complex and challenging to realize. It has a convex curve from left to right and slopes back from floor to ceiling. The interior hollow space created room for a shallow tv niche on top and partially recessed deep media storage cabinets below. The planning and framing involved to create the proper compound miter connections required extra diligence from the designers and builder, but the finished product was worth the effort!

Our clients came to us with the thought of creating a space that could be enjoyed year-round, reinvesting in their backyard space of their forever home. We transformed the space to make it an oasis with a custom design that included a plunge pool with an auto cover and can be used year round in our Chicago climate thanks to the heating and insulation designed in the pool system. No winter outdoor space is complete without heated walkways to automatically melt snow, allowing for quick and easy access from the home to the warm waters of the pool, even in the coldest of winter months!
We worked extensively with the client to maximize privacy, screening key viewpoints with a privacy wall and vegetation. Custom features of this transformation included a blend of deck space, integrated LED lighting, stone paver walkways, and natural limestone outcropping to accommodate the site’s topography.
