The custom banquette, white oak millwork, and open-grain cypress ceilings modernize the home. A large island allows for entertaining and multiple chefs to work in the kitchen. The trellis structure above the kitchen gives a structure for artificial lighting but allows for natural light from the transom windows to filter into the centrally-located kitchen. Photovoltaic panels generate all the home’s electricity, sending surplus energy back to the grid. All the home’s systems—hot water, HVAC, and radiant heating—are integrated, electric-based, and powered by the PV panels on the roof. The only use of natural gas is at the cooking range, which draws from a 50-gallon propane tank. With the exception of the propane tank, the home is net-zero in terms of its energy consumption. This kitchen remodel turned an outdated space into an elegant, functional and bright space - an entertainer's dream. White shaker cabinets, white marble countertop on island, dark gray on perimeter. New addition of a dry bar on opposite side of kitchen sink, part of sunroom addition, makes a perfect countertop wraparound addition - more work surface, more serving space.

Although the home is in its 100th year, the owners wanted to create an updated urban style reflective of their downtown location. The new styling, while sleek and contemporary, kept a traditional feel with a paneled door styling, crystal chandeliers and an updated glass version of subway tile. We were also able to create an open kitchen with a 3’8 ½” x 7’ 5 ½” island centered on a gourmet Wolf cooking area. The island provides an eating area, gas range top with hood and a warming drawer below. A pot filler was added for added convenience. The mix of metals and wood creates an eclectic feel.
