This homeowner was ready for a calm, classic, and spa-like feel for their new master bath. This transitional style seamlessly brings a traditional and contemporary style simultaneously. The light shades of white, gray, and blue bring a sense of relaxation. The focus centerpiece of this bath is the dual custom vanity with under-mount sinks, a makeup bar, and sleek brushed nickel faucets. A significant design element is a freestanding soaker tub accented by a mosaic weave wall. The floors consist of a 17x35 large format tile. an elongated glass hexagon mosaic strip within the stand-up shower will also catch your eye. We choose to highlight this project because even though it is a more traditional design style its light neutral color palette represents the beach lifestyle of the south bay. Our relationship with this family started when they attended one of our complimentary educational seminars to learn more about the design / build approach to remodeling. They had been working with an architect and were having trouble getting their vision to translate to the plans. They were looking to add on to their south Redondo home in a manner that would allow for seamless transition between their indoor and outdoor space. Design / Build ended up to be the perfect solution to their remodeling need. Our homeowners wanted something that felt light and warm and they were looking to open up their floor plan. We wanted to design around the existing beautiful hand painted cove molding but still give the home a completely new look. We started with the accordion doors, allowing their yard to be a picturesque backdrop. Living by the beach, the elements are harder on exterior surfaces. So we used a composite decking material which gives you the feel of natural wood without the maintenance.

"My goal was to open up the 1945 kitchen and bring it up to the modern age with clean lines and functional space. The original light fixture over the sink was one of guides to bring the past into the present. And opening the space into the dining room gives a wonderful flow into the rest of the house. The La Cantina door to the deck in the living room brings the outside in during the cool evenings."

It measures 64″L x 16.5″W x 15.5″ H, and makes a good companion to a wide, low modern or midcentury sitting area. Black epoxy fill highlights knots and along with a 3 stage finishing process brings a stark, strong look to the table; people tend to stare at the spiraling grain patterns when they first see it. Glass smooth lacquer invites touching and brings that a very deep sheen to the top. The angled legs are suprisingly sturdy and work well for this application while adding an intelligent visual twist.
