Inspiration for a mid-sized coastal 3/4 black and white tile and ceramic tile porcelain tile and multicolored floor alcove shower remodel in Santa Barbara with flat-panel cabinets, black cabinets, a one-piece toilet, white walls and an undermount sink

For her third birthday, her mom wanted to gift her a bright, colorful big girl’s room to mark the milestone from crib to bed. We opted for budget-friendly furniture and stayed within our clean and bright aesthetic while still aiming to please our very pink-loving three-year-old. Photos by Christy Q Photography

This project was a portion of a larger remodeling of a classic mid-century deck house in Weston, MA. The primary areas of focus for the landscape were an interior courtyard and rear terrace, both of which were overgrown and unused. In order to keep within budget limitations, our strategy consisted largely of editing the existing plants on site and reusing the best ones, maintaining existing groupings where appropriate. In keeping with the arts and crafts style of the home with its exposed beams and attention to detail, we implemented a simpler palette of rich materials with well-articulated detailing for a more pared-down contemporary aesthetic. When this sweet family of three welcomed their new baby girl, they immediately outgrew their 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom home. The primary goal for this remodel was to add a master suite addition on a modest budget. Because the budget was a concern, the original plan was to add the master suite with an entry of the existing kitchen. Though this would have certainly been a simpler project, it was not the ideal layout for the home. With careful planning and materials selections, we were able to stretch our clients' budget to give them more square footage and a layout that was much more functional and better suited for their home. In order to create a layout that made sense, the existing bathroom needed to be relocated to allow for a hallway leading to the new space. We were then able to design an addition that included a master bedroom, closet, and bathroom - as well as a new hall bathroom and an expanded and remodeled kitchen. The clients wanted a clean, updated look - however, the functionality of the space was the top priority. In order to keep costs down, the clients were happy to select affordable finish options such as pre-fabricated vanities, fiberglass tub and shower units, vinyl plank flooring, and stained (rather than painted) kitchen cabinets. The clients are fortunate to have a very large backyard to allow for the addition with plenty of space left over for entertaining outdoors. They were thrilled to finally have a master bedroom that they did not have to share with their infant daughter.

When a client buys an old home next to a resort spa you have to add some current functionality and style to make it the desired modern beach cottage. For the renovation, we worked with the team including the builder, architect and of course the home owners to brightening the home with new windows, moving walls all the while keeping the over all scope and budget from not getting out of control. The master bathroom is clean and modern but we also keep the budget in mind and used luxury vinyl flooring with a custom tile detail where it meets with the shower. We decided to keep the front door and work into the new materials by adding rustic reclaimed wood that we hand selected. The project required creativity throughout to maximize the design style but still respect the overall budget since it was a large scape project.

After going through the tragedy of losing their home to a fire, Cherie Miller of CDH Designs and her family were having a difficult time finding a home they liked on a large enough lot. They found a builder that would work with their needs and incredibly small budget, even allowing them to do much of the work themselves. Cherie not only designed the entire home from the ground up, but she and her husband also acted as Project Managers. They custom designed everything from the layout of the interior - including the laundry room, kitchen and bathrooms; to the exterior. There's nothing in this home that wasn't specified by them.
