The light from South Arch side window is focused upon the North wall where there is a large granite fossil. A smaller version of these swimming creatures appears above. Next to these is a cave-like opening where a thyme plant meanders down the rock wall. Other interesting artifacts are included in the design. Photo credits: Dan Drobnick

A quick look through the glass front door of this home allows you to see through the house to the paradise that awaits. Toll Brothers desired for this luxurious zero edge, beach entry pool to include a cabana with a spa capable of being closed-off entirely. Expert design and installation left them completely enamored with their outdoor space. The cabana was constructed at pool level, with a zero edge completely around it, requiring the footings to actually be built into the pool. It showcases a large water feature, as well as glass walls that can completely close, providing privacy for the spa. We worked alongside the contractor for the cabana while constructing the pool so that we could properly install the elements for both portions of the project. The beach entry has several colors of mosaic tile, installed by hand to create a gradient of color, as though walking from sand to deeper water. The entire front portion of the pool is a beach entry, allowing guests to walk straight from the outdoor patio into the pool. The back of the pool is a negative edge, creating an expansive, ocean-like feel to the space. The landscape was designed to coordinate perfectly with the pool, featuring a large grassy peninsula that jets into the water. Multi-trunk King Palms were craned over the house and delicately placed into the middle of this oasis. They are surrounded by artificial turf ensuring easy maintenance and a clean line along the zero edge. This luxurious, resort-style pool and spa allows ample space for lounging on the beach, relaxing in the spa and swimming in the colorful lagoon. The owners could not be happier with their beach-themed paradise. Toll Brothers the Enclave at Yorba Linda

One of two homes of a bicoastal television producer, this penthouse showpiece occupies the top story of a building nestled at the base of the Hollywood Hills. It offers panoramic views of Sunset Strip and mixes one-of-a-kind custom pieces with more casual retail pieces, to create a comfortable, contemporary home. The 2-bed, 2-bath nods to California coastal vibe, while also reflecting its West Hollywood locale. It juxtaposes organic materials—such as a stunning sunburst wood wall covering and a jute living room rug, handwoven in India—with more industrial pieces, like the hand-cut antique mirror tiles in the dining space. The dining table, chairs and leather banquette are all custom, as are the living room easy chairs and the raffia-covered beds. This eclectic space reads as both cozy and capable.

Taking industrial design one step further, Watermark Designs’ new Elan Vital collection combines the utilitarian aesthetic of Industrial Design with the ability to completely customize faucets. Reminiscent of industrial steam pipes, Elan Vital may look as though it was plucked from an 18th century factory, but it has all the modern touches: a 1.5gpm aerator (finished with intricate knurled metal), and the industry’s smallest exposed thermostatic valve used for the shower, giving the cleanest finish for installers plus 2.5 gpm per outlet capability. Elan’s 1/4 turn washerless ceramic disk vaulted lever handles are reminiscent of commercial ball valves, with the words “Hot” and “Cold” engraved into the brass. While Elan offers refined industrial styling, Watermark has also designed the collection to do the impossible: it’s making custom standard. The galvanized pipe and industrial design made of solid brass construction allows for endless customization. With Elan Vital, you literally specify how many elbows you want or need and in which of Watermark Designs 40 finishes you want the finished product. If you prefer a different handle, you can choose from one of Watermark’s 130 designs. A complete collection, Elan Vital is available as a widespread, elevated widespread, single-handle wall mounted, widespread-wall mounted, two-handle wall mounted, bridge wall mount, wall mount, deck mount, floor mount with hand shower and thermostatic shower.
