Inspiration for a bathroom remodel in Sacramento

AFTER PICTURE - Small Sorority Bathroom Remodel: This is the smallest bathroom in the Chapel Hill sorority after it was remodeled. It was designed both for looks and to meet the ADA (American Disabilities Association) bathroom standards. All bathroom tiles, including the floor, walls and shower tiles are from Byrd Tile Distributors. We love the light and dark contrast between the gray marbled tiles and the dark brown mirror and sink accents. The interior design and photography was done by Designer Rebecca Pace at RHLP Design, utilizing bathroom tiles from Byrd Tile Distributors in Raleigh, NC.

Blocks from the beach, this ADU feels like an oasis in Santa Monica. The design of the ADU was centered around the concept of flexibility. With a 2-bed, 2-bath layout, the the ADU could allow for roommates or caregivers living in the ADU permanently, or could be used as an extension of the main house for music studio space and pool parties. Tucked away in the layout is also an owner's storage space, as the ADU replaced the garage. Additionally, the layout considered accessibility as a concern, allowing for wheelchair access into the first floor public spaces and downstairs bedroom and bathroom. Ultimately, this ADU is a dream come true--offering flexibility for multiple uses in an efficient yet serene package that maximizes the usability (and resale value!) of the property.

Transforming this small bathroom into a wheelchair accessible retreat was no easy task. Incorporating unattractive grab bars and making them look seamless was the goal. A floating vanity / countertop allows for roll up accessibility and the live edge of the granite countertops make if feel luxurious. Double sinks for his and hers sides plus medicine cabinet storage helped for this minimal feel of neutrals and breathability. The barn door opens for wheelchair movement but can be closed for the perfect amount of privacy.

This wet room designed bathroom provides zero threshold access for bathing. The Ann Sacks teal glass deco tiles provide a visual guide for the shower area while adding a beautiful punch of color. A grab bar shampoo shelf by Invisia and an extra long second grab bar by Moen facilitates the transfer from a wheel chair or other mobility assistance devises to the shower seat (and toilet, behind the camera view). The handheld shower on an adjustable slide bar provides flexibility for bathers who are either seated or standing, as well as space for caregivers. The combination clothes washer/heat pump dryer makes good use of the space under the stairs as well as proximity to water supply pipes and waste drains that service the bathroom. The 2" x 2" floor tiles in the shower area provide additional traction to mitigate the potential for slips and falls.
