Beechwood sits on the edge of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in Oxfordshire. Employing high-quality materials, simple detailing and robust forms, the design produced a contemporary and sustainable home appropriate to its context.
The materials used in the project push conventional design boundaries but sit together harmoniously in the woodland setting. Blue/black engineering brickwork combine with pre-weathered Corten steel cladding, enabling the house to bleed into the landscape.
Implementing energy saving solutions was integral to the success of this project and was a key part of the client brief. The design followed best practice in nine categories of sustainable design: energy and CO2 emissions, water, materials, surface water run-off, waste, pollution, health and wellbeing, management and ecology. Beechwood achieved a Level 4 certificate under The Code for Sustainable Homes.

12th Street Residence is a residential gut renovation in New York City. The project combined two existing apartments into one spacious, light-filled space, providing comfortable living areas as well as prominent surfaces for art display. The firm worked closely with the client to create moments throughout the residence that would best display their vast and sophisticated art collection. The client had a strong vision for clean and functional spaces that would balance the art, and our program proposal provided maximum efficiency while our details helped convey the simplicity desired. Our services included filing at the Department of Buildings for the combination of both apartments while maintaining the Certificate of Occupancy, and hands-on construction administration that helped the project meet its budget and schedule goals.

Paul Despenas:This is the 2nd home these homeowners have worked with Midwest Construction to remodel the exterior of their homes.
Back in 2000 Templeton, Iowa area homeowners hired Midwest Construction to install replacement windows in their century old home. They were so please with the work performed in the past they called upon Midwest Construction to give them a bid for siding. The siding job was installed last January and the job looks great!
This spring Troy Deaton Senior Design Consultant, met with his previous customer to discuss new windows and patio doors.
6 weeks later the Midwest Construction window crew got to work and installed EcoSmart windows and Patio doors. Here are the comments they left on the completion certificate!

Single-family new construction in Albinea (RE), Italy, certified Class A by CasaClima Agency for high energy efficiency.
This single-family home was designed as part of an existing development plan near Albinea (in the province of Reggio Emilia), for which there were prescribed traditional design guidelines imposed. The architectural form, therefore, references a traditional Emilian farmhouse with a central "porta morta" area that acts as the entrance and stairwell. The color palette blends in with the surrounding hay fields, and the rear of the house offers decks and balconies overlooking the hills of the Reggiano Apennines.
Our challenge was to focus on the efficiency of the building envelope, without changing the orientation of the building. Despite the fact that the shorter side of the house is facing South and through careful design calculations and testing during construction, we were able to achieve Class A in the CasaClima rating scheme, one of the highest Italian certifications available.
This project is a joint development with Roverella SRL and is now for sale:
