The damaged leg had previously been poorly repaired in a way that left little wood structure to the leg, therefore it was weak. This photo shows the chair leg resting on the under side of the chair seat. The leg should be standing upright from the under side of the chair seat.

The leg was repaired by adding new wood and creating a mortise that matched the existing chair tenon (the part that inserts into the hole). While homeowners may be tempted to drive screws through the leg, a proper chair repair rarely include the use of metal as it wears down the wood over time.

This antique mahogany chair had a broken leg. The fabric of the chair concealed the issue. After pulling back the material, we figured out a plan to complete this chair repair.
