I designed and assisted the homeowners with the materials, and finish choices for this project while working at Corvallis Custom Kitchens and Baths. Our client (and my former professor at OSU) wanted to have her basement finished. CCKB had competed a basement guest suite a few years prior and now it was time to finish the remaining space. She wanted an organized area with lots of storage for her fabrics and sewing supplies, as well as a large area to set up a table for cutting fabric and laying out patterns. The basement also needed to house all of their camping and seasonal gear, as well as a workshop area for her husband. The basement needed to have flooring that was not going to be damaged during the winters when the basement can become moist from rainfall. Out clients chose to have the cement floor painted with an epoxy material that would be easy to clean and impervious to water. An update to the laundry area included replacing the window and re-routing the piping. Additional shelving was added for more storage. Finally a walk-in closet was created to house our homeowners incredible vintage clothing collection away from any moisture. LED lighting was installed in the ceiling and used for the scones. Our drywall team did an amazing job boxing in and finishing the ceiling which had numerous obstacles hanging from it and kept the ceiling to a height that was comfortable for all who come into the basement. Our client is thrilled with the final project and has been enjoying her new sewing area.

Noting the debris in the foreground, imagine what this place looked like prior to the landscape renovation. The challenge was to bring dignity and calm to such an eclectic mess of funky structures and exposed utilities. How to unify aged chocolate metal siding, sterile, glaring white aluminum siding and a beautiful old wooden shed? This gate is the first hint of the leitmotif that attempts to do just that. Conceived and fabricated by artist Jes Sanderford, his materials are a byproduct of the solar industry in which he works and collected on his backcountry mountain forays exploring old mines and camps. What was once a dark, gloomy dining space, has now blossomed into an elegant, glowing dining area. The rich mahogany wood flooring, deep brown shutters, dining table, and buffet were existing to the home prior the K. Rue Designs revamp. These pieces truly shine now with a few adjustments. The chair molding from before was hardly eligible for the title at only 30 inches above the finished floor and was simply painted wood trim pieces adhered to the drywall... To emphasize the grandeur qualities of this home, a 36 inch tall wainscoting was applied to this area and taller baseboards follow through the lower level of the home. For a little depth, grasscloth wallpaper stands above the chair molding. Stunning skirted dining chairs wrap around the existing dining table and contrast with the light area rug. Accentuating the bold shutters are light gold draperies hanging by single rosettes on each side, that puddle to the floor for some drama. The secret weapon for this illuminated dining space are the two 150 watt lamps on the buffet. Even when the lamps are in the off position, the metallic shades are a great detail.

It’s recommended whenever the surface feels too dry or rough and it is super easy to apply in 3 steps: 1- Clean and dry the surface 2- Apply the oil using cloth rags, brush, or sponge 3- With kitchen tissue or cotton cloth remove all the excess oil within 10-15 min. The surface should be dry after 6-8 hours.

I was recently asked to this property in Wimbledon in to see if there was anything we could do to resolve the problem with a recently laid Black Limestone tiled floor. The builders that had laid the Limestone did not cover or clean the tiles prior to sealing with an impregnating seal thereby trapping in all the dirt from the building works. They then grouted the tiles but didn’t clean the grout off the surface before putting on another two coats of sealer all of which resulted in a very poor finish. Naturally the customer was not happy so called them back to rectify the problem and so they came back and tried to strip the sealer off with cloths and a chemical stripper. Then without rinsing the stone to remove the chemicals they added another two coats of sealer; in desperation the lady gave up with them and called me in. To resolve I tried all the sealant strippers available to me but couldn’t budge the mess effectively. The only other option available was to diamond grind the surface so I discussed this with the customer and she agreed to this and left me to carry on. Initially I started with a coarse 400 grit diamond pad but even that wasn’t having much effect so in the end I had to cut back the surface using a 100 grit pad moving up to 200 grit, then 400 before finally stopping at 800. To lubricate the process you need to use a little water and then rinse away the resultant soil after each pad. If this was a polished stone surface I would have continued with finer and finer grits to restore the surface polish however these tiles were rough limestone and I needed to leave it as near to how it should be. Once all the Limestone had been stripped back the stone turned an uninviting grey colour, so to bring it back to black I applied two coats of Tile Doctor Stone Oil which enhanced the colour. I left the floor overnight to allow the Stone Oil to dry out and then returned to seal the Limestone using two coats of Tile Doctor Colour Grow which is an impregnating sealer that enhances the colour in the stone and will protect it from staining going forward. When the customer saw the final result she was overwhelmed and said she felt like crying with relief, because the floor now looked how she had imagined it to be. It was a great feeling for me to know that I had solved the problems for her.

COOKING PAN SMOKE ODOR — 7500 Sq. Ft. Home In July 2018, Master Odor Removal successfully completed an odor removal service in a luxury 7500 sq. ft. home in Boca Raton, FL. The odor issue was caused by smoldering cooking pan that had started to burn and was left for several hours. The 1700 sq. ft. area had 20 ft ceilings, three islands which led to the open adjacent dining and family room and large spiral stair case lead to the upstairs narrow hall and bedroom. All areas had a Level 5 (1-5 scale) burnt or scorched smell which included the cabinets, furniture, drapes and custom carpeting and in closeted large food pantry. The home had four air conditioning units which were in the attic that would have to be treated separately. The owner prior to our visit, had tried to just air it out and then used common cover-ups after cleaning the stove area – which only contributed to making the source odor smell pronounced throughout the homes other living areas. The owner was only interested in a rush and same day service! The odor was caused by tiny microscopic burnt plastic particles that were clinging to ceiling walls, furniture, floors, clothing and other items now inside most of the home carried in part by the time of smoke exposure and air conditioning cycling on and off. Smoke particles get into the tiniest nooks and crannies and can be difficult to remove. The stove area / back splash had visible signs of carbon though the other areas had no blackness that could be seen or even evident in the microfiber white cloths that we used to test prior to molecular chemical application. All living areas of the home had been expertly cleaned prior to our inspection. The scope of our work included odor source remediation, ceiling and wall treatments using a 20-foot ladder, and fogging treatments in the entire main home’s, kitchen, bedrooms, living areas and pantry. A/C electrochemical fogging in attic. Carbon was remediated and air quality tested.
