MIRIAM MOORE has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Interior Design from Miami International University of Art and Design. She has been responsible for numerous residential and commercial projects and her work is featured in design publications with national circulation. Before turning her attention to interior design, Miriam worked for many years in the fashion industry, owning several high-end boutiques. Miriam is an active member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID).

THEME A passion for sports that never grows up, never grows old and never tires is at the heart of this room. Designed as a den/office for a radio sports talent who’s life work revolves around stats, scores, free agents and athletes, the room ensures that its owner is surrounded by the teams and games he loves, with room for storage, a desk, a computer station and some personal accents. FOCUS Four baseball stadium seats procured from the old Tiger Stadium in Detroit, repainted with a faux wood grain look and personalized with each member of the family’s name give the room a true sports feel. Favorite team jerseys as well as team logos — painted tan to match the overall look of the room — highlight the space. Large wall towers divide the room into three distinct spaces. The central area houses two TV monitors and a hidden computer system, while the other two areas display oversized family photos in sepia tone prints and custom, matching frames. The towers, which provide storage, were purchased at Pottery Barn, and already in the room. To make them more functional, height was added to bring them to the ceiling, and the room’s crown molding is taken around each tower’s top to create a seamless flow. STORAGE The creation of the towers gives the room plenty of useful storage, including display areas, multiple shelves, and a place to hide computer accessories and office supplies. GROWTH The room can easily change over time as new sports memorabilia and family photos are added or switched out. SAFETY All wires for the monitors and computer system are hidden within the wall and inside the storage towers. Power running to digital frames dedicated to particular teams is hidden within the walls.

The reworked back entry included custom cabinetry so each member of the family (and the dog!) could have his/her own space for coats, backpacks and papers. Los of outlets allows tablets and phones to be charged right where they are stored.

CL Wiott Design along with other service professionals from HSSG, worked with Operation Home Front, a national non-profit that provides assistance to the families of service members and wounded warriors to remodel a families basement. Christine utilized her firm’s interior design services to create a floor plan that made the family's vision a reality. CL Wiott Design also created a new kids nook where studying, gaming and relaxing can be done by the six children while still being close to the family living area. To add a finishing touch to the space, they also brought in a Christmas tree and filled it with presents for the kids.

Lockers were built for each member of the family, complete with shoe storage, charging stations for computers, and basket storage above. A central island has 4 stools to sit for homework, art or snacktime, and houses drawers for each of the kids to drop their keys, with a USB charger for phones and iPads.

Natural, calm, family-centered. This client knew what she wanted and just needed some assistance getting there. Susan helped her out with imagery and product research, a first floor furniture plan and several working meetings to nail down the built-in functionality and look in the dining-room-turned-office/family drop-zone. Cork floors installed throughout give the home a warm and eco-friendly foundation. Pine-cones, tree trunk cookies, plants and lots of unstained wood make the family's focus on nature clear. The result: a beautiful and light-filled but relaxed and practical family space. Carpenter/Contractor: Sam Dennis From the client: We hired Susan to assist with a downstairs remodel. She brings a personalization that feels like getting advice from a family member at the same time adding helpful details of her industry knowledge. Her flexibly in work style allows her to come with plans fully researched and developed or to advise, plan and draw on the spot. She has been willing to do as much as we needed or to let us roll with our own ideas and time frame and consult with her as needed.

Dining area, kitchen and foyer seen from the Great Room. One of the drivers in generating the floor plan was a set of seeming contradictory goals. In watching the scouting tape of the family, I was very aware that this was a family who genuinely enjoyed being with each other. One of my goals therefore was to create a central communal space that the family could share. I wanted to keep this space at an intimate scale but was over-ruled by the show staff due to 'camera angles'. In our computer generated image of this space, color was used to create a datum line that was closer to the floor and which would serve to bring down the visual scale of the room. In the scouting tape the family members spoke of "Living on top of each other", "not having privacy" and "not being able to get away". Each of the bedrooms were place in their own 'pavilion' creating a sense of thier own place. But to maintain the sense of the strong family connection, each of the bedrooms connected through alcoves directly into the communal areas of the house. Another oddity of houses built for TV is the sheer amount of lighting fixtures which are installed. Again the studio takes over when it comes to lighting. I had hoped that I could convince the show to reduce the number of fixtures, divide the lights into multiple circuits and put them all on dimmers. I am not sure where the dimmer/multi-circuit recommendation ended up, but the number of light fixtures did not get reduced.

Inspiration for a mid-sized craftsman u-shaped medium tone wood floor eat-in kitchen remodel in San Francisco with a single-bowl sink, shaker cabinets, white cabinets, quartz countertops, green backsplash, ceramic backsplash, stainless steel appliances and a peninsula

When local business owners with four kids and an extended family decided to build their custom home with OakWood, they knew what they wanted – a luxurious yet functional space. This kitchen was designed with the intention of considering the fast-paced lives the family members while also looking to provide a space where everyone can interact and spend time together. Not only was this spacious kitchen inspired by a love of cooking, it was configured to easily facilitate informal dining for the whole large family. A large window behind the main sink brings natural light into the space but also provides a nice view into the backyard so mom can be in the kitchen and see the kids in the backyard. The kitchen was also designed with a variety of entry points; clients can access the kitchen from their sunroom, mudroom, formal dining area and more. As a result, the space is a central space for the family. Directly adjacent to this space is the informal dining area and a desk with a computer which allows the clients to work while still being present for the comings and goings of everyone in this family space. Although two colours and textures are used for the cabinetry, there is harmony created between them as a result of the raised panel being used. The cloudy glass backsplash not only breaks up the light toned cabinetry but also adds a glossy finish that contrasts with the smooth wood finishes. Seagrove quartz is present on both the counter and island. This highly detailed quartz adds a great deal of texture and also helps to guide the viewer’s eye around the space. Pendant lights placed above the island help to draw attention toward the center of the space while also mimicking the glass seen in the cabinetry. This project was a finalist for the GOHBA Awards in the category Traditional Custom Kitchen and was also featured in the Fall issue of LUXE Magazine Ottawa.
