And finding a balance with the style and efficiency they wanted was crucial.
“We wanted to be able to use the space (prep, cook, clean) without interference from family members in this walk-through galley kitchen. At the same time, we wanted to keep the aesthetic light, airy, clean, and minimal, almost making the kitchen cabinets disappear,” Alexandra says.
She concludes: “Overall, we thought that by choosing IKEA cabinets we would end up with a highly functional kitchen that would fit our design requirements, our budget, and our time frame.”

Two tall linen cabinets in this two-tone bathroom add vast amounts of storage to the small space while adding beauty to the room. The “Cashew” gray stain on the linen cabinets match the undertones of the Heritage Paint finish and at a beautifully dramatic contrast to the design. This sublime bathroom features Dura Supreme’s “Style Four” furniture series. Style Four offers 10 different configurations (for single sink vanities, double sink vanities, or offset sinks), and multiple decorative toe options to coordinate vanities and linen cabinets. Over time, a well-loved painted furniture piece will show distinctive signs of wear and use. Each chip and dent tells a story of its history through layers of paint. With its beautifully aged surface and chipped edges, Dura Supreme’s Heritage Paint collection, shown on this bathroom vanity, is designed to resemble a cherished family heirloom.
Dura Supreme’s artisans hand-detail the surface to create the look of timeworn distressing. Finishes are layered to emulate the look of furniture that has been refinished over the years. A layer of stain is covered with a layer of paint with special effects to age the surface. The paint is then chipped away along corners and edges to create, the signature look of Heritage Paint.

This Paradise Valley modern estate was selected Arizona Foothills Magazine's Showcase Home in 2004. The home backs to a preserve and fronts to a majestic Paradise Valley skyline. Architect CP Drewett designed all interior millwork, specifying exotic veneers to counter the other interior finishes making this a sumptuous feast of pattern and texture. The home is organized along a sweeping interior curve and concludes in a collection of destination type spaces that are each meticulously crafted. The warmth of materials and attention to detail made this showcase home a success to those with traditional tastes as well as a favorite for those favoring a more contemporary aesthetic. While Teresa did countless hours of research on design Web sites such as Pinterest, she also wanted to get the kitchen done quickly.
That meant taking some risks, she says.
“I wanted to renovate the kitchen immediately after moving into the new house. This required me to take measurements, pictures and video all in one visit. So, my measurements were a little off,” she explains. Luckily IKD’s design team provided her with a detailed inventory list [as part of its design process and helped out with specific custom looks, she notes.
“With IKD’s design guidance I actually over ordered versus under ordered and simply had to return a few cabinets and pieces [rather than make a return trip to IKEA],” she concludes.
With her project now complete, Teresa says she is ready to move onto greener pastures.
But first, there are some specific tips she wanted to share for any future IKEA kitchen remodeler.
“I would say to do your research, and remember that no detail is too small. Also, be sure to visit an IKEA no matter where you live at least once to be able to see the kitchens in person. And, definitely use IKD but be sure to have a clear kitchen idea to convey!” she says.
With that said, Teresa was able to complete her IKEA kitchen in a timely manner and in a budget friendly way as well.
“I would say our budget was mid-level [for this project]. Since we did most of the work ourselves we saved a ton of money. We really have a glowing pride in accomplishing this project and it turned out to be not as difficult as we thought!” she concludes.

There are a couple of other interesting elements that make this IKEA kitchen unique. One element was pre-existing and the other was an addition. “The kitchen had a U-shape before we remodeled and I didn’t really want to keep it – but that’s what best fit the space,” she says. “There wasn’t enough room to do an island without having a good triangle flow for cooking.” She concludes: “We also wanted to bring a warm wood element into our design and we did that with both our custom hood as well as our floating shelf above the adjacent coffee area. The custom vent hood was actually created onsite by our carpenters using leftover Baroque Forli European Oak Hardwood that is featured on our flooring.”

This comprehensive Northbridge project involved a complete site transformation, beginning with land preparations, demolition, and waste removal. The team dismantled unwanted structures, cleared vegetation, and prepared the site with machine earthworks and leveling. Drainage and electrical provisions were installed, including trenching for pipes and conduits.
Concrete works laid the foundation for walls, stairs, and driveways, followed by masonry construction for retaining and garden walls, complete with drainage and waterproofing. Masonry work added elegance with rendered finishes, and new tiling revitalized stairs, paths, and the driveway. Landscaping included garden restoration, turf installation, and pathway enhancements. The project concluded with pool area repairs, waste removal, and detailed finishing touches.

Mid-sized danish 3/4 white tile and porcelain tile bathroom photo in Louisville with white walls and an integrated sink

These homeowners are well known to our team as repeat clients and asked us to convert a dated deck overlooking their pool and the lake into an indoor/outdoor living space. A new footer foundation with tile floor was added to withstand the Indiana climate and to create an elegant aesthetic. The existing transom windows were raised and a collapsible glass wall with retractable screens was added to truly bring the outdoor space inside. Overhead heaters and ceiling fans now assist with climate control and a custom TV cabinet was built and installed utilizing motorized retractable hardware to hide the TV when not in use.
As the exterior project was concluding we additionally removed 2 interior walls and french doors to a room to be converted to a game room. We removed a storage space under the stairs leading to the upper floor and installed contemporary stair tread and cable handrail for an updated modern look. The first floor living space is now open and entertainer friendly with uninterrupted flow from inside to outside and is simply stunning.

Andrew selected IKEA cabinetry for its budget, modularity and good reviews.
“It also looked great, especially in combination with the aftermarket fronts and hardware,” he says.
To make their kitchen design ideas a reality, required professional help though.
“For something as complex as a kitchen remodel, I figured that the money would be well spent on getting experienced designers to do it for us. I had read good reviews about IKD and we decided to give it a try. Our first challenge was deciding what we wanted. We spent a lot of time looking at design sites, reading and trying to understand how to balance form and function and budget,” he says.
Another challenge was getting all the IKEA pieces needed for the project — especially since the remodel project began in the summer of 2020 during COVID-19. “Supply chains were not great for IKEA, which meant many items were not available. It required an online order, then three different trips to the local IKEA to get a hold of missing pieces that would be in stock for all of a day before going out again,” he describes.
He concludes: “The parts list that IKD generated was perfect and the installation documents made it really easy for our installer.” The pair also hired a cabinet installer, and although the installer was inexperienced with IKEA’s system,“he was able to quickly figure it out and it all went well.”
According to Andrew, there is one very important tip he would suggest for other IKEA customers beginning their remodel process.
“If you are on a budget, that usually means the timeline will be a bit longer, so get ready for some extended camping in your own home. With that in mind, we moved the “kitchen” into our dining room. Another tip is that an induction hotplate ($35 on Amazon) was great for cooking simple stuff,” he concludes.

Inspired by the limestone bluff upon which the home resides, a new pool deck acts as an extension of the topography, drawing the limestone up to form a sculptural pedestal for the existing brick façade. Composed of 7-inch tall horizontal stone bands with deep reveals, the deck not only negotiates the transition between the house and the cliff, but also bridges the two wings of the house, uniting the newly-remodeled interiors. Large sliding doors allow direct access from the main living areas to the new pool deck, which concludes at a 60-foot long negative-edge pool supported by a cantilevered concrete slab set into bedrock.
