This natural stream restoration project is located in southern Lancaster County, PA. The project consisted of removal of existing deteriorating stream bank supports. We then excavated the banks of the stream to allow for installation of new natural stone retaining walls. The stream was also widened slightly to improve flow and help prevent future flooding. This was an additional phase of a larger project. Below is some pictures of the stream restoration.

Featuring a wood-like appearance, the Free Union double-swing driveway gate consists entirely of aluminum, so there’s no worry of wood rot. This modern-style, sag-free gate also features 6” steel support posts and sturdy ball-bearing hinges.

Nexus is a site-specific plant installation that explores the question of the relationship between plants and humans in an urban context. The sculpture consists of five steel rings of various diameters that serve as supports for different types of hanging plants and also support the illumination system of the entrance hall. This striking installation sets the atmosphere for a series of informative panels highlighting the company’s vision, the importance of the relationship between humans and nature, and how this connection can benefit contemporary urban spaces dominated by concrete. The circle—an endless figure without beginning or end—evokes the idea of unity and totality. The set of rings represents a constellation of relationships, an interconnection. Nature and humanity intertwine, redefining urban harmony.

The basement foundation provides an exciting rear exterior which offers a vast amount of distinguished outdoor entertaining space consisting of an expansive rear deck studded with stacked stone beam supports and a covered porch ideal for casual dining. The entire space is framed with gorgeous window insets to provide sweeping outdoor views from the interior rear of the home and beyond.

The program consists of a detached Guest House with full Kitchen, Living and Dining amenities, Carport and Office Building with attached Main house and Master Bedroom wing. The arrangement of buildings was dictated by the numerous majestic oaks and organized as a procession of spaces leading from the Entry arbor up to the front door. Large covered terraces and arbors were used to extend the interior living spaces out onto the site.
All the buildings are clad in Texas limestone with accent bands of Leuders limestone to mimic the local limestone cliffs in the area. Steel was used on the arbors and fences and left to rust. Vertical grain Douglas fir was used on the interior while flagstone and stained concrete floors were used throughout. The flagstone floors extend from the exterior entry arbors into the interior of the Main Living space and out onto the Main house terraces.

The interior of the wharf cottage appears boat like and clad in tongue and groove Douglas fir. The contrast between the foggy, gray exterior and warm interior is striking and intentional - a refuge from the harsh coastal environs.
A small galley kitchen sits at the far end right. Nearby an open serving island, dining area and living area are all open to the soaring ceiling and custom fireplace.
The fireplace consists of a 12,000# monolith carved to received a custom gas fireplace element. The chimney is cantilevered from the ceiling. The structural steel columns seen supporting the building from the exterior are thin and light. This lightness is enhanced by the taught stainless steel tie rods spanning the space.
