A properly-designed pond will not attract mosquitoes, as mosquitoes prefer stagnant water to produce their offspring. Most backyard-ponds have constantly moving water because of the stream feeding it.

This project was an entry to the Water Wise Landscape Recognition Program in Brantford. Features include: Spillway from downspout directed to supply water to drip-line of young Red Maple. This replaced a lawn that was in constant battle with invasive weeds and crabgrass. The grade of the yard was changed to retain as much rain water as possible to significantly reduce run-off. All plants used require little to no water need outside of what Mother Nature provides.

Usage of low maintenance materials, refinishing and reusing cabinets, and reallocating space instead of changing the home’s footprint kept this project green.
Clients were also able to live on site during the renovation due to the low-VOC and water-based finishes, and our constant indoor air-quality monitoring.
The entry and main floor, kitchen, and both baths now feel fresh, airy, and spacious, allowing for immediate relaxation in taking in natural light, water views and sunsets from this West Seattle split-level home.

When our client first reached out, they wanted a dining table that was truly one-of-a-kind—something that would feel both natural and timeless. From the very beginning, we knew this project would be special. We carefully selected the perfect black walnut slab, adjusting and refining it multiple times to capture the ideal grain and character.
During production, we collaborated closely with the client at every step, discussing wood choices, resin flow, and finishes. The creamy white translucent resin was poured with precision to highlight the wood’s natural beauty while keeping the table feeling organic and rustic.
After weeks of meticulous work and constant communication, the result is a table that embodies warmth, craftsmanship, and personality. It’s not just a piece of furniture—it’s a story, a collaboration, and a centerpiece ready to inspire countless meals and memories.

House 6, is Cheng Design’s sixth custom home project, was redesigned and constructed from top-to-bottom. The project represents a major career milestone thanks to the unique and innovative use of concrete, as this residence is one of Cheng Design’s first-ever ‘hybrid’ structures, constructed as a combination of wood and concrete.

Endless Movement presents a vertical column of intertwined red human forms compressed between two tall white structures. The rigid white sides create a narrow channel, framing the figures as they twist, climb, and fold into one another. Individual bodies are visible, yet they merge into a continuous flow, forming a single upward motion.
The vivid red color contrasts sharply with the calm, architectural white surfaces, emphasizing the energy and tension within the confined space. The figures appear caught in an ongoing cycle—struggling, rising, and transforming—without a clear beginning or end.
This vertical movement suggests persistence and the constant effort of human existence. Despite limitation and pressure from the surrounding structure, the bodies continue to shift and ascend. The sculpture reflects the idea that life is a continuous process of movement, adaptation, and endurance, where individual actions blend into an unending collective rhythm.

Set along a forested hillside, Forest Edge Retreat brings together contemporary architecture and natural beauty in perfect balance. This Paris Mountain modern home draws subtle inspiration from mid-century modern design—defined by clean geometry, wide overhangs, and a seamless indoor-outdoor flow. A layered composition of stone, composite siding, and expansive glass creates visual contrast while grounding the home to the mountainside.
Drystack stone extends from exterior walls into interior spaces, blurring the distinction between the two. Warm siding tones and wood soffits echo the natural palette of the surrounding forest. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame ridgeline views and flood the living spaces with daylight, establishing a constant dialogue between home and landscape. Every angle is considered, every line intentional, reflecting CarsonSpeer Builders’ role as a premier Greenville custom home builder focused on precision modern construction.
