Kim Roberts, owner of Staging Beautifully, has a passion for creating beautiful spaces. From home staging to redecorating, Kim’s relaxed and friendly approach make even the most challenging project fun and enjoyable.
For those interested in refreshing their space, Staging Beautifully can assist a homeowner in decorating their home with the items they already own and love. Like staging, redesign may include color selection, rearranging furniture, hanging art and placing accessories. It is a cost effective design alternative which will give your home a facelift without the cost of an Interior Designer. Utilizing your furnishings and treasures, we will shop your home to find new and creative ways to display your family’s possessions. This will result in a complete interior transformation which will reflect your personality, style, comfort and functionality to your living space without having to buy anything.
Looking to sell your home, consider home staging to target a higher selling price. Home Staging aims to de-personalize your home and make it appealing to virtually all prospective buyers. The way you live in your home and the way you market your home are two very different things. Your home is competing with every other home on the market. A home that looks like it needs work or isn't move-in ready prompts buyers to low-ball their offers, or eliminate your home from consideration all together. Those homes that are staged to reflect current trends attract and appeal to more buyers, resulting in more offers, faster sales, and higher sale prices. Sometimes, an agent may even recommend your price be increased once your home is staged! A well-staged home can even start a bidding war with multiple offers!

Find the right local pro for your project

One of many projects planned, we tackled this area first.
We eliminated an unnecessary ceiling soffit that had unflattering recessed down lights and a wall between the vanity area and toilet/tub.
This allowed for the space to feel much more open and bright.
We put in a new tub and tiled to the ceiling with a recessed niche for storage.
The installed a new tile floor and double vanity.
We went with brushed nickel finishes and a spa-like paint color make this guest bathroom not only inviting but a retreat for all who use it.
Landmark Remodeling did the work and went above and beyond when there was a hiccup on the vanity top and help remedy everything swiftly.

Creating a comfortable outdoor living space is a priority for many homeowners and DIY enthusiasts. With rising summer temperatures, installing a shade tarp in your backyard offers an affordable and effective solution for sun protection. We’ve developed this detailed, step-by-step guide to help you confidently install a shade tarp that not only shields you from the sun but also adds aesthetic appeal to your outdoor area.
Benefits of Installing a Backyard Shade Tarp
Before diving into the installation process, let’s explore the key benefits of having a backyard shade tarp:
Provides UV Protection: Keeps your family and guests safe from harmful sun exposure.
Reduces Outdoor Temperatures: Creates a cooler, more enjoyable outdoor space.
Protects Outdoor Furniture: Extends the life of patio furniture by reducing sun damage.
Enhances Outdoor Aesthetics: Adds a modern, stylish look to your yard.
Budget-Friendly: More affordable compared to permanent structures like pergolas.
Materials and Tools You’ll Need
To begin your DIY backyard shade project, gather the following materials and tools:
Materials:
Shade tarp (UV-resistant and breathable)
Sturdy posts or existing structures (trees, fences, walls)
Mounting hardware (eye bolts, D-rings, turnbuckles, snap hooks)
Nylon or polyester rope, or stainless-steel wire
Concrete (if installing new posts)
Tools:
Power drill
Measuring tape
Level
Ladder
Wrench or adjustable spanner
Post hole digger (if installing new posts)
Step 1: Plan Your Shade Tarp Layout
The first step in installing your backyard shade tarp is careful planning. Take time to assess your outdoor area and answer these key questions:
Where is the sun’s path throughout the day?
What size and shape of tarp best suits your space?
Will you anchor the tarp to existing structures or install new posts?
What height do you want the tarp to sit at for maximum shade and airflow?
Pro Tip: Use string or garden hoses to visualize the tarp layout on the ground before making permanent decisions.
Step 2: Measure and Mark Anchor Points
Once you’ve determined the tarp’s location and orientation:
Measure the tarp dimensions.
Mark the exact points where each corner of the tarp will be anchored.
Ensure that the anchor points are at least 5–10% longer than the tarp size to allow for tensioning and slight adjustments.
Consider slope angles for water runoff. Aim for at least a 20-degree angle to prevent water pooling on the tarp.
Step 3: Install Support Posts (If Necessary)
If your backyard lacks existing anchor points like trees or fences, you’ll need to install sturdy support posts:
Dig post holes at least 24 inches deep and 8-12 inches wide for stability.
Set posts in concrete, making sure they remain plumb and level.
Allow the concrete to cure for at least 24–48 hours before applying tension from the tarp.
We recommend using pressure-treated wood, galvanized steel poles, or aluminum posts for longevity and strength.
Step 4: Install Mounting Hardware
With your anchor points ready, it’s time to install the necessary hardware:
Attach eye bolts or pad eyes securely into walls, posts, or other fixed structures.
For added flexibility and adjustability, install turnbuckles or tensioners to fine-tune the tarp’s tightness.
Connect snap hooks, D-rings, or carabiners to make assembly and disassembly easier.
Make sure all hardware is rated for outdoor use to prevent rust and corrosion.
Step 5: Attach and Tension the Shade Tarp
Now it’s time for the most satisfying part—mounting the shade tarp:
Begin by attaching one corner of the tarp to an anchor point.
Gradually attach the remaining corners, moving diagonally for even tension.
Adjust each connection point using your turnbuckles, ropes, or cables.
Pull the tarp tight enough to avoid sagging, but not so tight that it risks tearing.
Check that the tarp maintains the desired slope for rainwater runoff and adjust tension as needed.
Step 6: Final Adjustments and Safety Check
Before enjoying your new shaded area:
Inspect all anchor points and hardware for stability.
Test the tarp’s tension and make adjustments for even distribution.
Ensure that no sharp edges or loose connections remain that could damage the tarp or pose a safety hazard.
Confirm that the tarp is secure in windy conditions by giving it a gentle tug.
If you live in an area with frequent high winds, consider removing the tarp during storms to prevent damage.
Step 7: Enjoy Your Shaded Backyard Oasis
Once installed, your backyard shade tarp provides a comfortable and protective space for outdoor gatherings, relaxation, or family activities. You can decorate underneath with outdoor furniture, string lights, or potted plants to create a personalized outdoor retreat.
Maintenance Tips for Long-Lasting Shade Tarp Performance
To extend the life of your shade tarp, follow these maintenance guidelines:
Regularly check for wear and tear, especially around anchor points and seams.
Clean the tarp periodically with mild soap and water to prevent mildew buildup.
Store the tarp indoors during harsh weather seasons if it's not designed for year-round use.
Tighten hardware as needed to maintain proper tension and avoid sagging.
By following these simple care steps, your shade tarp will continue to deliver years of sun protection and outdoor comfort.
Conclusion: Upgrade Your Outdoor Space with a DIY Shade Tarp
Installing a shade tarp in your backyard is a cost-effective and rewarding DIY project. With careful planning, quality materials, and proper installation techniques, you’ll enjoy cool, shaded outdoor living all season long. This step-by-step guide ensures your project goes smoothly from start to finish.

The best kitchen showroom in your area is closer than you think.
Main Line Kitchen Design's five designers are some of the most experienced and award winning kitchen designers in the Delaware Valley. They design with and sell 6 nationally distributed cabinet lines And because our designers work out of small offices and selection centers, the cabinet pricing is very competitive. Cabinet costs are slightly less than at Lowes or The Home Depot for semi-custom cabinet lines, and significantly less than traditional showrooms for custom cabinet lines.
If this kitchen showroom is so close by, why don’t you recall seeing it?
Because it’s in your own home! And in our second floor offices by appointment only!
While most appointments take place at our Bala Cynwyd or Havertown Pennsylvania office, understanding what your kitchen design will look like and how sample kitchen cabinets, doors, and finishes will look in your home is sometimes easier when you are standing in the very room being renovated. At Main Line Kitchen Design we can bring sample doors and finishes to your home and make design changes on our laptops in 20-20 CAD with you, in your own kitchen.
Main Line Kitchen Design is a more modern and cost effective business model. We are a kitchen cabinet dealer and design team that carries the highest quality kitchen cabinetry, is experienced, convenient, and reasonable priced.

This beautiful exterior accent wall showcases the Quarry Mill's Carlisle castle rock real thin stone veneer. Carlisle is a multicolored two-tone real thin stone veneer. The natural stone is a castle rock style with medium to large semi-irregular blocky pieces. It showcases a blend of light and dark grey pieces with an occasional tan or gold colored piece in the mix. Carlisle is a split back or natural back product and has not been sawed on the back with a diamond blade. The natural back will have no impact on the final appearance or installation. Due to the natural layering of the quarry, we do not need to saw the stone into thin veneer. The reduced production cost makes Carlisle a cost-effective premium thin stone veneer at a very competitive price point.

Located in the Cornfield Point area of Old Saybrook along Long Island Sound, this project brought a classic, yet forgotten beach house back to life. Through a little detective work and some creative ingenuity, we restored and enhanced the exterior to it’s former glory and transformed the interior to a highly efficient and functional home all the while uplifting its quaint cottage charm. On the exterior, we recreated a wonderful, airy front porch with cozy bench seats that look out to the water. The white cedar shingle siding is pre-bleached with a subtle flair at the bottom and a delicate break at mid-elevation. The asphalt shingles are not only beautifully matched with the siding, but offer superior reflective qualities to dissipate the heat of the summer sun. On the interior, we joined the front seasonal porch with the family room to form a larger, open living and dining space with paneled walls and ceilings anchored by the original round stone fireplace. In the rear, we carefully crafted a galley kitchen and laundry space with an adjacent first floor master suite. The diminutive house and property posed multiple practical and regulatory challenges which were overcome by a strong team effort, due diligence, and a commitment to the process.

A very small backyard where space was at a premium. Our client wanted a sitting area with fire pit and low maintenance was a priority. We designed a simple stamped concrete fire pit patio that butted up to the corner of the yard and used beautiful natural rock slab step stones to carry from the lower walkout patio to both the fire pit patio and the Rundle side yard. Black mulch and some nice plantings rounded out the project. Easy and clean!!

This charming farmhouse sits atop a grassy hill overlooking a serene Connecticut River Estuary. The new design reformulated the first floor plan making it much more functional and visually exciting. It encompassed the reorganization of multiple spaces including the Mudroom, Kitchen, Dining Room, Family Room, Sun Room, Laundry, Bathroom, and Master Closet. The design also added, deleted, and relocated windows and French doors to greatly enhance exterior views, draw in more natural light, and seamlessly upgrade the articulation of exterior elevations. Improvements to the plumbing and mechanical systems were also made. The overall feeling is both sophisticated and yet very much down to earth.
